Hi, I am 14 days post surgery, I had my first try at mashed potato and cheese for lunch yesterday. I could only manage a yogurt for tea as I was so full. Today I have a really bad stomach and have been sick about 8 time. My throat and esophagus is burning. I am not sure when I should panic and what I should do.

I had my surgery done privately and so am not sure who to call for advice. Thanks for any thoughts you have. K

Try not to panic. Some people have early problems with dairy so it may be the dairy in the cheese and then yoghurt that has upset your system.

Call your surgeons office, as vomiting so soon after the surgery can risk a late leak or other damage to your still healing staple lines. Are you on medication for reflux? (my surgeon said they put everyone on medication for the first few months to prevent/reduce reflux and also aid in the healing of the stomach by reducing gastric juices)

if you can't get support from your surgeon or the hospital where you had your procedure at this time, consider calling or going to your local hospital emergency department for advice?

Thanks. The hospital won’t answer the phone. I’ve requested a telephone appointment with my GP so hopefully they’ll ring soon. Hurts so much now I’ve been sick x

I second Taoz's suggestion, get yourself to the nearest Emergency facility! Let THEM call your doctor, they have ways of getting through whereas we common folk do not and they can speak medical-else so they WILL get thrir, point across. You are posr-surgical and this qualifies as😷 an emergent situation, if you do not have transportation call your local rescue squad. Let them take you in! 😝

According to my hospital discharge instructions (which identified the various conditions that warrant a call your surgeons office is:

#9. Persistent nausea or vomiting greater than 6 hours.

Most surgeon offices have a hot line number to call in case of an emergency.

My dietician emailed me back and said it was likely the cheese being too fatty, I have to delay moving to the purée stage until my stomach is feeling a bit more settled. Lesson learned I guess not to run before you can walk. I should have waited until my two weeks of liquids was done (Thursday) before trying some mash and cheese, it tasted so lovely at the time! I have to say though I have never had such pain following being sick. My GP called me also and said stick to fluids for the rest of the day and rest. Not heard a thing from the hospital whose nurse is supposed to be ringing me back, which is a bit rubbish really given I paid to have my GB done privately.

So my program says no potatoes (sweet or regular) for a few months, they are too high in carbs. I wonder if it is too soon for potato.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
