Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies Check In Here!

I would love to make some surgery buddies now so we can go through all the pre-op requirements together and stick through surgery and beyond. Anyone else already know their surgery will occur this summer?

My surgery is going to fall in the July or August time frame. Most of this is dependent upon checking all my surgeon's boxes, the rest is dependent upon my financing since I'm self-pay. I'll be getting the sleeve.

I love my surgeon and feel really lucky to have found him. So far the pre-op stuff has gone smoothly, but I am just at the beginning stages. I've scheduled all my evals and classes and attended my first weight loss class last week. I found it to be mildly helpful. It was certainly geared more toward those that hadn't already read through the surgery binder and/or those that had no clue what healthy eating consisted of. I'm hoping future classes focus more on the post-op eating.

My first visit with my PCP about this surgery is next week as that's the soonest I could get in to see her. I'm hoping she'll be supportive as my surgeon knew of her when I told him that's who I see. But if I have to find another PCP so be it.

My first dietician appt is next week and psych eval is the week after that. I only have to get these three meetings out of the way to schedule my surgery. So I'm anxious to get that done!

I'm excited to hear from others along the same timeline as me!

Holding true to my commitment of eating better upon my return from vacation. I'm sitting here snacking on a tomato instead of my usual afternoon chocolate donuts! :P

Speaking of food...

I'm still committed to not telling anyone about my surgery, but I do have a change at work I have to manage. Right now I sit in an office and in a completely different building that all the people that I work with on a daily basis. In the next month or two we'll all be consolidated and I'll not only be sitting with my peers, but will also have to move to a cubicle. So, I can no longer hide what I'm eating behind a door. Not that anyone will really be watching what I eat post-op, but it just makes me self conscious about it and maybe a little harder to hide my surgery.

Our department snack station is located in my cubicle, because I’ve got extra space. My manager already knew of my surgery plans, but today I sent a team email that said, “as some of you know, but most of you don’t, I’m having gastric bypass next week. So- is it cool if we relocate the snacks?”

This served to casually tell them something they would have noticed eventually and it got that delicious looking coffee cake someone brought in this morning the hell out of my face. ??

Ok - I think I'm caught up!

Since the member list is getting really long, I've updated it to put the completed surgeries in a separate column.

We have so many completed surgeries - I can't wait to hear how it's going for everyone!

Hello all, I'm one week post op. Had my first post op appointment and they're so happy with my progress. Lost 12 lbs since surgery and 25 overall. Got to move onto pureed foods today (vegetable and dairy, from their list). This is in addition to my protein and water requirements. I'm walking a lot and seem to have a lot of energy. Down side... My main incision and new tummy still hurt, and still sleeping in my recliner BUT a friend recommended a wedge pillow, so we'll see see tonight. Fingers crossed I also tried Ricotta Bake, so delicious, but couldn't finish.
Good luck to those with upcoming surgeries!
