Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies Check In Here!

I would love to make some surgery buddies now so we can go through all the pre-op requirements together and stick through surgery and beyond. Anyone else already know their surgery will occur this summer?

My surgery is going to fall in the July or August time frame. Most of this is dependent upon checking all my surgeon's boxes, the rest is dependent upon my financing since I'm self-pay. I'll be getting the sleeve.

I love my surgeon and feel really lucky to have found him. So far the pre-op stuff has gone smoothly, but I am just at the beginning stages. I've scheduled all my evals and classes and attended my first weight loss class last week. I found it to be mildly helpful. It was certainly geared more toward those that hadn't already read through the surgery binder and/or those that had no clue what healthy eating consisted of. I'm hoping future classes focus more on the post-op eating.

My first visit with my PCP about this surgery is next week as that's the soonest I could get in to see her. I'm hoping she'll be supportive as my surgeon knew of her when I told him that's who I see. But if I have to find another PCP so be it.

My first dietician appt is next week and psych eval is the week after that. I only have to get these three meetings out of the way to schedule my surgery. So I'm anxious to get that done!

I'm excited to hear from others along the same timeline as me!

The only time I guess I second guess myself was when I was waking up from surgery and omg pain I told them nvm changed my mind we didn’t need to go anywhere. The surgery nurse chuckled and told me sweetheart it’s a bit late now your on the other side. I was like pain meds please now
I feel you on this! ? I'm good now but right after I felt so awful. I knew it was anesthesia. I'm good now.

Confession Time: I haven’t second guessed myself, still not doing so, but I have to confess that in the back of my mind I felt like I would get this surgery and still not be healthy. It was a very negative and very sad thought. I questioned how would this time be any different from the other times that I ate right, exercised like crazy, only to lose a little weight and gain back even more no matter how healthy my diet or exercise regimen. Still I was decided on doing this surgery, I have to try right. Well now I’ve been bit with the positivity bug from all of the well wishes and encouragement that all of you and even my whole medical team instills in me. It finally hit me today that this time, it actually will be different. How do I know? My determination to get healthier, my complete and utter commitment to this process, liquid diet and all. I just cannot fail. So to anyone who is second guessing or feeling like this isn’t going to work. Banish the thought. We’ve got this ?
Thank you for this! I’m obviously pretty anxious about the surgery. It is a very big deal and a lot to put myself through. And a lot of uncertainty if the same bad habits that got me to nearly 400lbs won’t come back.

However, I try to remember why I am doing this. I am doing this so I improve my health and lower my risk for diabetes and other obesity related illnesses. I’m doing it, cause I’m dang tired of having to compensate or work around my weight/size. Simple tasks are sometimes not so simple when your body is just in the way. I’m tired of wondering if a chair is fat person friendly or if I will fit in spaces that are just not designed for someone my size.

Some of these have already improved with the 70lbs I have lost up to this point through exercise and diet. However, every workout felt like a losing battle and I’m ready to tip the dang odds in my favor for once!
Singing this chorus right along with you, insta adventurer! ?

I definitely understand all of the reasons why you are doing this. I have such a bad family history health wise that I’d like to stop before it can think about happening. And I get winded just walking across the room! So I get it. And I’m glad that what I said resonated with you. You’ve got this! ?

It is the most amazing feeling to have a group of buddies supporting you. And those intrusive thoughts of failure are the absolute worse. We have no come this far to fail. We are taking back our lives!
I am new to this group, but I have a date! I am a summer sleever, 7/2 is my date! And my process was very very quick. Approved on first submission, only started this process in May. I am nervous, very anxious, and hungry! Lol. On day 2 of my liquid diet.
4 more hours on my last day at work before my leave begins. Surgery is on Wednesday. The anxiety is kicking in!

My birthday is in August so I'm hoping to have it done before then (totally an arbitrary goal but it'll feel like a really weird birthday present to myself, lol).

My birthday is in August too and I’m also hoping the surgery will happen before then. Tomorrow is my 6th of 6 nutrition appointments and that’s the last requirement I have to complete. Then insurance approval and get a date. My surgeon’s office said it’s usually 4-6 weeks after you complete all of the requirements, so I’m hoping for early August.

Looking at you’re name I’m wondering if you are from Connecticut. If so, I can tell you that I got an approval quicker than that and so did another friend. Best wishes!

Was sleeved at Bariatric Hospital MX, by Dr. Illan. So I'm 4 days post-op. Feeling OK. Not feeling like I'm drinking enough on my clear liquid diet. Going to try Gatorade G2 tomorrow to see if I can get some pep back.
