Any MAY sleevers???

Recommended Posts

I wondered if anyone here knows if pumpkin is allowed in 2 week preop diet. My diet sheet hasn't mentioned it.

my pre-op diet list only specifically says no potato, kumara or sweet potatoes. However I know sweet corn, pumpkins, and peas are also quite sweet. Maybe check with your nutritionist?

Post surgery it will only be potatoes and sweet potatoes that I limit, most other veggies will be ok. I just picked up several cauliflowers on special to make some smooth cauliflower Soup (which has a little sharp cheese and potato in it) to have frozen ready for liquids phase. Once I can have mushy foods I'll have my more usual chicken and vegetable Soups - including the estimated 6g of Protein in real homemade chicken stock, plus a scoop of bodie'z unflavored protein (15g) plus any soft bits of chicken I throw in, a simple bowl of chicken and veg soup will give me at least a third of my needed protein for the day. And I love my soups (as do my husband and son, haven't been able to convince my daughter yet) - the more fresh stuff included from my garden the better (herbs, garlic, carrots, zucchini, tomatoes mostly).

I'll attach word documents of the cauliflower and cheese soup, and a nice-sounding mushroom soup that I plan to make for liquids phase. I"ll probably do a fairly thin basic butternut pumpkin soup with a little potato, carrot and cumin in it too.

Hi, thanks
I'll love the cauliflower/cheese soup as I tend towards savoury flavours. Your home garden sounds great. I grow herbs, chard and cos lettuce and have been prepping today for post op. I did Kent pumpkin. Chard and carrots. All cooked softer than usual. I just had to make sure I froze correct amounts for reduced stomach.
I realise preop diet sheet says squash allowed so I think pumpkin is in the squash family so I added a bit to my vegetable curry. I also made a rustic vegetable soup with some cannelini Beans for protein. I am pretty nervous as it will be hard to feel so hungry while feeding family as normal and I am a midnight snacker which will be difficult to curtail. My dietician said to have protein Snacks if I get hungry. Are you worried about hunger?

You can freeze things like Soups and purees in ice cubes then pop them in snap-lok bags and just take whatever volume you need at a time. I have a few large icecube moulds from kmart which hold maybe 75ml each - they might prove useful for freezing small soup and pure portions.

I'm not really worried about hunger. So far I'm doing fine on the VLCD pre-op diet the past few days, and that's before I have most of my stomach removed. I had a tin of smoked rainbow trout and broccoli and green Beans for dinner, a choc-hazelnut VLCD shake for lunch at 2:30, a coffee with 200ml 1% milk at 12, and one scrambled egg at 9:30am. Once I get my bodie'z unflavoured protein delivered (hopefully by mid next week) I'll include a scoop of that for an extra 15g protein in my coffee and I'll be set. (Can't yet stomach the shakes for both brekky and lunch)

My sleeve is scheduled for 5/7! So excited and nervous! I’ve been a longtime lurker on this site and now that I’ve got my date it doesn’t feel real!

Me too! I had a COPD exacerbation a few weeks ago and I hope they don't postpone me! They are rescheduling my endoscopy and I have my consent signing visit next week. I'm SO ready to start a healthier, happier life!

May 2nd here as well SmileyMay! (though will be about a half day ahead of you here in Aussie land) :)
*I'm not sure why my ticker is displaying May 1st*

(copied below what I pasted in the April/May thread too)

I'm jumping in here now as I just got my date today! 2 May 2018 is my surgery date, and have started my pre-op phase immediately as they would ideally have liked me on the pre-op diet for 4 weeks with my BMI so close to 50.

Kids will be back at school that week after the 2 week term holiday, and hubby will be taking a week and a half off to manage the kidlets (6 & 9 years) while I'm in hospital and my first few days at home.

Any other Aussies in here? I'm in Adelaide and going with Dr Michael France at Ashford Specialist Centre.

I am so crazy excited, and glad I'm not having to jump through insurance hoops and lengthy delays like so many US sleevers.

I will have to stick with just lean meats/protein and veggies today and tomorrow until my formulite Meal Replacements arrive by post (can't have Optifast as aspartame and other artificial sweeteners trigger nasty Migraines for me), then 2 shakes and one lean meat & veg meal a day until 2 days before surgery, only shakes the last day before surgery.

*does jiggly happy dance*

2 Days Till Surgery!   It's time! Time to start my clear liquids! I am prepared! Tomorrow I will only take in clear protein, bone broth and jello for the next two days.   My surgery will be done on Monday, December 9th at 8:00 AM. I have to be at the hospital at 5:30 AM (EWWW) but who cares? LOL. Funny how you don't get all upset about doing things that are not so fun when you are doing it for a purpose! . I don't plan on doing much this weekend. I have one errand to do and after that is over I will return to my hotel room and go into prayer and meditation. Believer or not, you got to do what you need to do in order to get your heart and mind in a healthy place. . I have a Pre-Op drink I ordered that is supposed to really help your body hydrate before surgery. It's not in the photo just because I don't have it in my hands yet. I will put photos of it up when I get it. . All I can think about it how blessed I am to be able to get this done. I know how it feels to be healthy and happy then have it snatched away. It makes this all the more joyful for me. . So, it's time to lay it down and start letting my mind process what we are getting ready to do. . By the way...funny story. My doc said he had to cancel a surgery because his patient said she thought "Mashed Potatoes" was a clear food! Um, there will be no mashed potatoes for me! LOL This is HAPPENING! . Last thought for today: I knew when they drew my blood yesterday it was going to leave a nasty bruise and I was right. I am so sensitive to that kind of stuff.

Cold no.2 since surgery. The funny part is now Ive lost my voice. I feel better in my sinuses now, but my voice is 90% gone. Losing your voice as a person who talks as a teacher for a living is so funny. You feel normal and when you speak, nothing comes out. I hope it goes over by Monday, but if it doesn't oh well. Ill be at school and cant talk to the students. Oh gee darn.

I hope it gets better. I sing and I know how it is to lose your voice. I always get scared that it won't come back. LOL but it always does. Try Fisherman's Friend. It's nasty but it works. You can find it on amazon.

Got my haircut today and its always amazing how much better i feel afterwards.
i have always considered it an odd thing that i enjoy a haircut so much.
The smell of the barbershop (no salons allowed) and the whole scissors and clippers feel and sound is so relaxing.
I have had the same barber since 1987 and i am not sure how i will handle it if that guy ever dares to die on me. I am pretty sure that the magazines on the bottom of the stack are the same ones from my first visit.
just started Ron Powers -Mark Twain Biography- enjoying it
