Who didn’t/doesn’t have to do 2 weeks liquid?

And if you didn’t have to, where are you?

Curious at how surgeons require different things. My husband and sister were sleeved here in Atlanta and had to do 2 weeks of liquid pre-op. However my aunt in Las Vegas did not.

I am pre surgery but my Dr doesnt require a liquid preop diet if your BMI is under 50. Having surgery on Ft Stewart , GA

My surgeon and I are in Michigan. I do not have to do liquids. Only shakes for breakfast and lunch with a sensible dinner for the week before surgery.

I'm in Rochester, NY. I only had to do clear liquids the day before surgery, and nothing else after midnight.

My surgeons office is 3 weeks no starches then 2 days of clear liquids then npo midnight the day before surgery

I don't have to. The nutritionist told me at my first consult that my insurance mandated three months of pre-op diet. Based on my profile and health she said just cut out carbs after breakfast as well as anything carbonated. So I said "Should I just do Keto?", she said yes, and that's all I've done. Down 17lb in 7 weeks so far. Surgeon also confirmed I will not even have to do a liquid diet in the days leading up to the surgery.

I had two weeks of protein shake for breakfast, protein shake for lunch, lean green dinner, with a clear liquid diet the day before. After surgery it was three days clear liquids, then full liquids, then pureed/mushy foods . . . no real food for a month. I pretty much hated the first month after surgery, but that's when I lost the most weight.

I have a one liquid pre-op, one week liquid post-op, but my BFF had 1 day liquid pre op and was able to eat as soon as she was able to.

So glad I found this thread! I’m having mine on the 28th and I have to have an all liquid diet for 2 weeks before surgery. My start weight was 251, I lost 20 pounds before being considered so my BMI is now 39%. Don’t know why my dr is so strict when I don’t have very high BMI and no other health issues (no diabetes, no high blood pressure, etc.) Today was day one of liquid diet and it was rough. I can imagine it will become harder and harder as I will be even more hangry. Any suggestions out there?

Hot broth, and lots of salt lol

I am in New Jersey. My doctor said it wasn't necessary for me.

Just had my PREOP Nutrition Class and will have to do 10 days preop diet shakes for two meals, 2 - 8oz milk or yogurt (ff/low-fat), 4oz lean meat, 1 cup non starchy vegi and a Protein snack (can be a bar, lean meat, eggs) and in any order I choose. Along with 72oz of Water or unsweetened drinks. I start on Easter Sunday.

And it is inching closer and closer! I am So So envious-- things are starting to turn around and but next step is 2 hour psych-exam. Bad news? Not scheduled until April 25th--- nerves fraying with impatience.

My surgery is on the 28th and I am on day 4 of a 10 day liquid diet of 3 protein shakes a day and 2 low fat greek yogurts. Two days before surgery clear liquids only: water, no calorie drinks, jello and broths. I don't feel hungry but I am already sick of drinking the protein shakes even though I have several different flavors that I like but only being able to drink these is making me hate them. I try and stay busy so I don't think about it too much. The 28th can't come soon enough.

I didn't have to when I was in the process. I'm in Pittsburgh, PA.

The day before, they just said no food or liquids after midnight. I stopped after 6pm. Went to have my surgery at like 8am that morning.
