I am so very sorry to hear this. I had my gallbladder out years ago. The constant severe pain sounds like you are having an attack. I am shocked that they are waiting two weeks to remove it. Last thing you need is for it to burst.

Maybe they know from the ultrasound it will be ok for two weeks but very weird to me. I had ultrasound on a Thursday right after severe attack. Scheduled surgery for the following Wednesday and I didn't make it. Ended up in the ER and had emergency surgery.

So, if the pain gets to be intolerable, the ER is an option. I really feel for you being in that kind of pain. Nothing else like it.

That was how it happened for me... I went to the ER not knowing what the pain was and didn’t leave till my gallbladder came out a day later. My sister in law had same.

But we both had stones if your ultrasound shows sludge not stones it’s not an emergency and they will make you wait till they have an open spot in their schedule sadly

That stinks! Sorry for your bad luck. Had mine out ages ago. Had it done outpatient first thing in the morning....and was home sitting on the couch eating a Subway sandwich by 2pm. Piece of cake:)

You'll feel better. Best wishes!

Well this is terrible news for you :-(

Did they scan you GB before surgery? I ask because I've read a few posts from people who got their GB out with their bariatric surgery. And because I'm worried about my GB :-)

Actually they did back in August 2017 when I started this whole process and it was ok at the time! It started right after surgery, At first I thought It was part of the healing but it just got worse and at my 2 week post op appointment, he sent me for an ultrasound. I kinda wish it would get here already, This pain is no joke!!! I hope yours goes uneventful and yours is fine!!!

Man, I bet! I remember mine made me feel pretty rough...I think I ate nothing but cottage cheese for a month! Got it out and felt SO much better.

Good luck!

I've really been doing well since surgery, getting all my Protein and fluids in with little problem. The only problem I have is ever since surgery my incision that the doc removed my stomach has been extremely painful and I've had a severe pain in my right middle back that won't go away. I went in for my 2 week post op appointment and the Doctor said there is no way you can be having gallbladder problems this soon! But sent me for an ultrasound anyway. Just my luck, I have to have my gallbladder out next week. Geez Louise, this happen to anyone else?

I am sorry to hear and that's unpleasant but anything can happen with this type of surgery. It is serious elective surgery and that is why you have to jump through so many hoops just to get to the operating room. It was a good thing that you did not delay in reporting this pain. When I lost weight the first time, through diet and exercise, my gall bladder nearly killed me. I had no pain or discomfort whatsoever. All of a sudden one day I was just getting progressively sicker and sicker. I thought I was coming down with the flu until one of my college roommates found me semi-conscious and I was rushed to the hospital. I had emergency surgery to remove my gall bladder. I remember the ultrasound tech yanked the emergency cord on the side of the wall when she saw the size of the gall bladder. Scary stuff. This was back in February of 2002. Surgeon told me I am lucky to be alive because if this had happened when I was at my heaviest weight, he might not have been able to get to the gall bladder in time to safely remove it. I was in the hospital of 2 weeks because my gall bladder had become infected and there was concern of an infection spread.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
