Out With the Old--In With the New!

I was going to call this Break On Through To The Other Side (thank you Doors). But I figured I'd get sick of it after a while. I'm going to use this space to keep track on the 2 week march toward surgery and then to keep track of the recovery and progress. That way I can keep it all together and if I just do one thread, it's all in one place without clogging up the Blog Area. I'm sure it's gonna be excruciatingly boring to everyone--me included! I'm a list and minutia kinda gal. I like tracking and counting--although I can be equally lax about crap. So I stop just short of OCD town (not that there's anything wrong with that).

My official 2 week liquid diet starts tomorrow. I decided to jump on it today because Sunday feels like a great place to start and because it's hard to do better than yesterday as my last food day before surgery. I'm a Texan, born and raised, and yesterday we had a fairwell to my ass and thighs via a Texas BBQ tour through Houston and Tomball. I ate so much brisket, sausage and ribs, I can honestly claim to be over it. Growing up in a BBQ family, slow smoked meats is almost in my blood. So it was only natural that I would choose that as the last rights.

I'm having RNY on February 20th and as I understand it, moist (fatty) brisket might not be my friend post surgery. Supposedly high fat foods (which moist brisket is) might cause a sort of "dumping" in the poop department. So I figure my future, once healed, might only include lean cuts of brisket and smoked meats. It's a choice I will readily make to lose weight and get my health back.

So the morning Day 1 hasn't been very difficult--a little hunger and growly tummy, but nothing that makes me feel anxiety. Protein drinks on board and this afternoon will shop for SF popsicles, SF jello and bone broth. I think I'll stick to packaged bone broth so I can get the actual nutritional information from a certified source. There's no real way for me to tell how many calories and carbs are in the bone broth I make here at home.

My Pre-Op Plan includes: 80-100g of protein; low fat; 60g carbs and somewhere around 1000cals per day.

4-5 Protein Drinks containing a minimum of 15g of protein per serving. They must be low fat and low sugar and can't contain over 4g of sugar per serving. I can have clear low sodium broths, sugar free drinks, sugar free jello and sugar free clear popsicles (no fudgsicles or ice cream based pops).

I will do this from now until February 20th.

I'm pretty sure I will be doing plenty of the following:

Thank God for you my Tang-flavored friend (Celebrate 3 in 1 Essential Multi + Ca + Fiber). You are a bright spot in my post 2nd brekky day. I look forward to our time together. I linger over you. You are totally worth the 20 cals, 4g carbs, and 3g of fiber. Totes worth it, Bestie!

Ok Fluffy- I totally get you about the concern over your cast iron stomach- I woke up with that concern for myself too! Nothing seems to bother me! Most of the time I'm in a good place and I think that I'm so lucky, but occasionally I have mornings like this morning and concern, worry, fear seep in because what if this surgery did not work for me like others?!?!

Thanks for always being honest- it makes others feel so much better that we are not alone! And that I'm not the only loony one out here!!!

And silly me, knows, I am a worrier. At each stage I've worried. You'd think I woulda given it up for Lent this year! *snort* bahahahahahaaha!

Ok. So let's make a crazypact here! We can come here and let our crazy just spew out on this page, ok??!!! Anytime we're worried about it? :D ((hugs)) Thanks for helping me know I'm not alone!!!!

Update: 3weeks + 3 days Post Op - 210.4lbs (-12lbs from SW of 222.4lbs)

Sooooo yesterday I had an interesting break through after my long post yesterday morning! LOL. All my meals were strictly 1/4c or else were 2oz protein + 1oz veg. And I did just fine. I wasn't "full" at any of them. But I was ok, walking away from the meal. They all took 20-25minutes to eat. Yada, yada, yada. LOL. I felt like I wan't forkin my surgery! Yeeeehawwww!

Now fast forward to last night. I was hungry. I was low on protein that day cuz I only ate my 1/4c and 2oz at each meal...so I was tempted to just sit down with my full recipe that I made--which was 3/4c of food! But. I. Did. Not! Yay!!!! I made my recipe and split it into 3 servings. And ate my dinner plus 1oz of cottage cheese and 20g of Splenda canned peaches (1 slice of peach) and was done! :D Yay! Win one for the gipper. I think I "might" be figuring this stuff out!

Chicken Florentine - Soft Foods Phase 3

Serves 3; 1/4c each

1oz chopped frozen spinach

1oz broccoli, frozen or steamed (leftovers work great here)

1/2oz mushroom, chopped fine

1oz canning liquid from chicken or low sodium chicken broth

1/8 tsp granulated garlic

1/8 tsp dried basil

2oz canned chicken, flaked (reserve canning liquid)

60g Classico Light Asiago Romano Alfredo

Topping after dividing meal:

4g grated parmesan cheese

Combine first 4 ingredients and nuke at 1 minute intervals for about 2-3 minutes until veggies are super soft. Add flaked chicken and alfredo. Nuke another minute until heated through. Stir well to even distribute ingredients. Divide into 3 portions. Top your dinner with 4g of grated Parmesan cheese.

Enjoy.

Nutritionals full recipe: 113 Calories; 13g Protein; 3g Fat; 7g Carbs; 1g Fiber; 6g Net Carbs; 0g Sugars

Nutritionals 1/3 recipe (1/4c): 37 Calories; 3g Protein; 1g Fat; 2g Carbs; 0g Fiber; 2g Net Carbs; 0g Sugars

.

Notes: Sooooo when you split into 3, the recipe is more of a snack than a meal. I coulda safely eaten 1/2c of it, but as mentioned, I'm trying to do the whole 1/4c thing for now--until my Thursday meeting with my surgeon and RD. LOL. That's why I added the 1oz of 2% cottage cheese and peaches as my "dessert". So even when you heal more and can eat 3/4cup for a meal, this will be a fairly good meal. You could even add another 1/2oz of chicken without adding too significantly to the volume for the full meal!

It tasted pretty yummy for semi-homemade!

Oh sweetie, that post surgery iv and inflammation weight gain is a heartbreaker!!! I think it took me a week or more just to get back to my SW. ((hugs)) I did it too. I weighed maybe 3-4 times a day to see...is the fluid coming off yet? Is it coming off yet?

LOL. Not quite 4lbs/week, but entirely, wholly average. I'm average. I'm just average. I'm an average girl. Gah!!!! I'd like to put the FU in average!

Oh your recipes! I can’t wait til you are giving us all chewy-food recipes!

I can’t diet more cos I am rarely managing 1000 calories already. I am useless again..... oh look, I dropped size in my pants and fit into two lovely old pairs of work trou that were hard to do up 2 weeks ago. Panic stations averted... for now”

Mood swings post surgery are real. I'm in Crank Town today and passed Douchery about 10 miles ago. I'm wearing my fancy ass hat on my head and I just feel like someone ought to call me Snarla. Cuz dayum, are the claws out and sharpened.

I've no idea why I feel this way. The sun is out. The temp is beautiful. Work is going well. I feel great--a little low on energy. The trains are running perfectly on schedule with only colace and Miralax on board. I can seemingly eat whatever the fork I want. I'm walking well. I've got a great guy who loves me despite OTT ass-hattery antics. I have a lovely fam who supports, accepts, and loves me.

The only stressor in my life is understanding my new tool's volume and the amount I can eat--coupled with feeling like I'm not losing so quickly--even though I'm perfectly a little above average at 3.528lbs per week.

So there's no reason to be cranky, except, I still am working anesthesia out, and probably dealing with some hormones from the fat liberation going down 'round these parts! LOL.

Ok, so I may go out and get some Vitamin D therapy today to see if I can get over my bad self!

"Douchery"!!! :lol::lol::lol: I freakin' :778_heartbeat: you.

I had a slice of cheese with breakfast this morning--against doc's advice...then I thought better of it and said, "Dayum, shazam!!! How stupid are YOU?" So I felt compelled to have a cup of smooth move tea this afternoon.

All I can say is...

The sea was angry that day, my friend...

Ok, piccys coming. Note, will put a smiley face over mine - I haven’t told many people about the RNY, just that I got my broken band sorted. Truth but not the whole truth. Regret that now, but no undoing it!

So, posted on my three month update thread...
