Hi. I'm hoping someone can give me some insight. I was all gung-ho about my surgery. I had al clearances done. I was transparent about all of my prior surgeries. Surgery day came. My surgeon opened me up and closed me after three hours and aborted the surgery due to my having "the worst case of scar tissue I've ever seen" condition. I'm all upset because I NEED this surgery or else I can't have the other surgery I desperately need which is revision surgery on my back (I have scoliosis) where there's concrete causing me to have severe pinched nerves on both shoulders and pain going down my whole left side of my body and resulting in my sciatic nerves to hurt me as well! My orthopedic doctor WILL NOT operate on me with this weight and is afraid if I don't have the sleeve, I'm just going to get bigger and bigger to where I won't be able to walk on my own!! I'm scared & desperately need advice! Someone? Anyone? PLEASE⁉️

Perhaps you need to seek out another surgeon, one who has successfully performed higher risk surgeries. I thought that the sleeve was less invasive than RNY. I remember reading about another user on here that had an aborted surgery because of a somewhat similar issue. Is it possible that you could have the surgery done open instead of laprascopically?

Also as a last resort, you might look into having the Obera Balloon being made medically necessary for you. You could do 6 months with the balloon that might let you lose 40-60lbs-ish? If you REALLY apply yourself, but the balloon isn't without risks and discomfort. :( ((hugs)) So sorry to hear this report! That totally sucks green ones!!! :(

My surgeon is aware of my previous surgeries and said he will start laparoscopic but will go to an open procedure if necessary. The surgeon that did my laparoscopic cholecystectomy in 2016 didn’t have an issue so I have my fingers crossed. Sorry to hear your doctor just aborted all together.

@BlingQueen that is really rough, I have scoliosis myself but not to the extent you do. I think the preceeding advice is good, if your current surgeon is not at a Center of Excellence Hospital I would consult someone there. I am lucky all 3 in Columbus, my state capital, are. Go with the open procedure if necessary, sure it takes a longer to heal from an abdominal wound but@biddynz who's still active reminded all of us you don't have the horrid gas and after a,month or so had returned to her job. Am going to,pay all still goes well and you recover well from both surgeries.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
