Protein shake question

Recommended Posts

What’s the best Protein Shake for my mom who seems to be lactose intolerant? She has tried Orgain and Premeier but the cause has like symptoms. I’ve been reading about whey Protein, is that one good?

And would The bariatric Abdominal binder and stomach support be a good thing for her after surgery healing wise? Thanks In advance

Many experience problems drinking Protein Shakes. I hated them. But in the beginning I drank them, three 16-ounce Protein shakes a day, in order to meet my protein requirements. You do not have to like protein shakes only tolerate them. There are many varieties of protein shakes available today. Experiment until you can find one you can tolerate.

I used Muscle Milk Light (Vanilla Creme) powder blended with Water and a half a banana. That worked for me. But on the opposite end of the spectrum, you might try premixed Isopure. I was also Lactose intolerant. This condition lasted for 2 months and then disappeared.

Without sufficient protein, your body will scavenge protein from other areas of your body, such as your muscles. Protein is extremely important after surgery as its job in the body is to build and maintain tissues including your body's major organs and skeletal muscles. Protein deficiency, when continued over a long period of time can cause a disease known as protein caloric malnutrition. Common symptoms are poor healing, fatigue, Hair loss and muscle wasting. Immediate post op, protein promotes healing of the staple line and incisions.

According to my discharge directions: Wear your TED hose until activity is back to normal. (This is to prevent blood clots). Wear your binder for at least 2 weeks. Your binder is for comfort.

Protein reactions are hit or miss. Buy some samples of different ones for her to try. I couldn't tolerate the Isopure - it made me sick. So its really hit or miss. For some folks, it was a lifesaver.

My program did not recommend or require an Abdominal binder. She should check with her doctor on that.

I had issues tolerating Protein Shakes after surgery but I found that the GNC Lean 25 shakes sat well with me. They taste pretty good and have many flavors as well. I approved them with my NUT before using because they were not on my approved list but she said to go for it. I used them for about 5 months and then switched to a Protein Water.

As for a binder I never used one at all so I think it depends on the doctor and is more of a comfort thing

The binder helped me a lot!!! Decreases pain and helped me move easier! Wish I would have had one for my 4 c-sections!

If she’s lactose intolerant you can always try muscle milk. Those are lactose free.

      OMG! I dreamt of cake!!
As of late, my dreams have been food obsessed. Last night I dreamed of gorging on good old American sheet cake with chocolate frosting. There was white frosting as well. Good thing we can't get that in Sweden! I just hope that I haven't become too engrossed in food. BUT they are only dreams after all.

Feel like it's time for a status update, I haven't been on here regularly in a while and I need to keep my mindset focused on my goals.
I haven't weighed myself in ~ 3 weeks.  I think I'm becoming the opposite of "obsessive" about tracking my progress and it could cause me some issues.  The good thing is that there have still been quite a number of NSV's happening that is telling me that I'm still progressing without knowing what the scale says.
First one is that a belt I bought about 5 weeks ago because all my other belts were too big is also on the last hole so I'll have to buy yet another belt again.  second, I bought new jeans about a month ago and I have a lot more slack in the waist than I did when I purchased them.  I also boarded a plane and had about 8 inches of slack in the belt.  Finally, I hit my goal last week of being able to ride go-carts with my kids.  The last time I tried about 4 years ago, I had to leave because I couldn't fit in the harness.  This was sweet victory and I showed those two how it was done on the race course!!  😈
