does anyone know if this insurance will cover my gastric sleeve? please help!

Hello! I'm new here just looking for some answers I hope to find...but I'm 5'6 and weigh 260 pounds. my BMI is a little over 40, I believe. I have sleep apnea, but no other comorbidites. Unless IBS or stomach problems count? I have medical, since I am low-income, under LA CARE. I was wondering if anyone here has had this procedure done or know if it is covered by this insurance? Also, how could I start the process? unfortunately at the primary doctor I currently have, it takes so long ti get an appointment, so I was wondering if I could start elsewhere? Thank you everyone!

The only way to know for sure is to contact your insurance company. Good luck!

Start by flipping over your ID card and calling the number on the back or going to the website and signing in if you have on-line access to your insurance. Each plan varies. Good Luck.

I am 5’6 with a starting weight of 245. My insurance is MD based Medicare and it’s UnitedHealthcare Community Plan. Bariatric surgery is covered by state plans as long as you meet the requirements- in my case, since I had a lower BMI (standard is 40 or less) I had to have at least ONE comorbidity with for me is Type 2 Diabetes. Call your insurance company to find out more!
