Pre-op dieting

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have to do 2 weeks of Optifast before surgery. This means 3 shakes, 2 cups low starch veggies and low cal drinks/sugar free jelly etc.

I have just reached the end of day 5, and this morning after 4 days on the diet I had lost 3.5kg (7.7lbs) By the end of day 2 I was almost in tears I was soooo hungry, but on day 3 my appetite seemed to magically disappear, and since then I have had no problems sticking to the less than 800 calorie regime. Only thing is I feel quite weak and tired, but then I guess that should be expected since my body is getting nowhere near enough energy.

I am hoping that being able to cope with this pre-band means I will not have too many probs on liquids and mushies post band. Looking forward to joining all you October bandsters in 10 days time!!!

Kathryn

:clap2:well congrats on your surgery right around the corner!! wish i was in your shoes! i am in my 6 month pre-op medically supervised diet, and i have lost 15 lbs so far. they told me i can maintain that until surgery day. and dont think because you dont think your doing a good job now (which you are) doesn't mean you won't do well after the surgery. dont worry. you'll do great, and good luck!

Thanks for the vote of confidence Jacole. Maybe I didn't express myself properly - I actually meant that as I am not now too hungry on this diet, I hoped it was a sign that I would be able to cope well with the post op regime.

Well done on your weight loss so far - how far into the 6 months are you? Keep up the good work.

Good luck

kathryn

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
