It occurred to me today (my liquid aka fasting diet begins tomorrow) that there is a lot of research done on fasting. Granted, this isn't a true fast as I will be taking in Protein daily but the rest (for me) is going to be Water.< /p>

During a fast your body uses its glucose reserves within 24 hours. After that, your body will use only 4% protein and 96% lipids (fat) for energy. Fasting has TONS of benefits but must be done under medical supervision. It can help with allergies, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma and hypertension. The biggest finding is that fasting prior to chemotherapy dramatically decreases the side effects. There is an EXCELLENT documentary called "The Science of Fasting". I saw it on Amazon Prime Video. The major body of work was done by a world renowned biologist named Dr. Longo at Univ. of Southern California. I'm sure you can google him and find his research.

So, maybe we should all look at our pre op diet as beneficial and not just for surgery preparation. We are truly cleansing our bodies and preparing them for a new healthy life.

That is a good point and motivational perspective. Thanks for the positive posting. There are also spiritual benefits. Fasting offers opportunity to connect with your inner self (soul) and God. Fasting gets intense because is is not a natural thing to do. We need sustenance to survive. It takes great power and control, and at times like that we call on our inner strength and spirit guide to get us through. This deeply meaningful experience can be profound and life changing. Hence why it’s used as a not only a physical cleansing but a spiritual one as well. It helps with refocusing use when we go off track. It brings us to a meaningful and purposeful place. Good luck pre-oper s

Is it fasting if you are drinking? I thought fasting was no food or drink?

People can die without food and Water. I think Gandhi went 3 weeks with just a little water. However, he used fasting as a spiritual ritual and his body was used to it. A normal person would have severe issues and death.

Bodies can’t survive without Water.

There are different ways to fast too, some do just Sweets, some do animal products, some do a meal or two or all, some do even TV and social media. I’m mixing up the physical and spiritual fasting ways together here. I truly suck at fasting, spiritually, but I try. Currently, I’m “trying” lol with my church for a week. It’s easy because I suck at it. Lol. God knows my heart though. Also, Im a fan of intermittent fasting as well...but don’t think I’ll dive into that until I reach maintenance. I wondered about how fasting plays a role after having WLS, whether for physical or spiritual purposes? Anyone do it post op?? Care to share?

Anyway, fascinating science/info about how it cleanses our bodies @Sherry Rice thanks for sharing. Blessings to you on your liquids hon!

By what standard or measures are you thinking about fasting. These posts are all about the pre operation fast/diet someone asked a question about. Fasting has many forms. Sometimes we only know what was told to us about things. Fasting all depends on what your aim is.

The documentary and this post is about Water ONLY, NO food.

Fasting is a willing abstinence or reduction from some or all food, drink, or both, for a period of time.

We all have a different definition of fasting, like fasting for lent, but for me fasting is fasting from food, I would not say oh im fasting, but then be eating solid food.

But I do fast ( Water only) one day a week to help with healing purposes and it is helping

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
