When do you stop losing?

Recommended Posts

You stop losing when you consume as many calories as you burn in a day.

I only giggled because you seemed so direct and obvious, your right lol but sometimes stalls happen for no reason and then suddenly start things up again with not much change lol but think we need more info from the op on her eating habits if anything has changed her weight to start and now etc.

How long have you been at the same weight? How much do you weigh and how much have you lost? These are important to know before providing a suggestion.

For instance, you might have lost 100 pounds in 5 months, and now you have been in a stall for the last week or so. You might have lost 40 pounds in 3 months, and now you have stalled for the past 2 months.

Each of the scenarios above would probably bring different advice from the community. It would also help to know whether or not your eating habits have changed over the last month or two.

This isn't particularly true.. stalls happen simply to allow your body to reshuffle.. When you lose fat, your fat cells fill up with Water to sort of hold their place.. it takes a few weeks for your body to release that Fluid. Which is why sometimes you'll stall a few weeks and then drop 5 lbs in a few days. I stalled for 24 days and then lost 9 lbs in a week.. It's all a process.. just give your body time. Look at your food intake, watch your carbs, and drink plenty of water.. stay active.

It's a great question, and I'm wondering the same thing, especially about the pace of loss. My surgery was about 4.5 months ago and I've lost 61-62 pounds (from bmi of 38 to 28). I feel great and feel good about my weight loss, but it does feel like the pace of weight loss is slowing down. Obviously the weight loss was most dramatic in the early weeks when my caloric intake was super low. I am exercising and doing weight training/strengthening per my surgeon's recommendations. I believe my caloric intake is approx. 900-1000 cal per day.

For those of you out 6 months to one year, what was your general pattern of weight loss? Was there a point at which you stopped losing and began maintenance?

I am still losing, albeit at a snail pace. My doctor (not my WLS surgeon, but Dr. Westman the obesity specialist) told me that at my current intake (~1000 calories, <20g. of carbs), I will continue losing until my body naturally figures out its healthy weight and then I will know I've landed at the right place.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
