Insurance Question

Recommended Posts

I am considering Gastric Sleeve and my insurance plan at work lists it as an exclusion. I was considering getting an individual plan as a secondary to help with the cost. Are there any individual insurance plans that cover WLS?

If your insurance is provided by your employer, getting a supplemental plan is unlikely. Unless you have a spouse and can be added to spouse's plan, which does cover WLS.

Your best bet is to wait until the next open enrollment period and see if any of the plans available to you offer WLS as a benefit. If not, there are lots of folks who have done Mexico as self-pay for about $5,000. (I was covered by insurance but there are whole threads on self pay)

Good luck.

I'm pretty sure it's excluded from my husbands plan also. All of the plans available to me at work lists WLS as an exclusion.

My insurance says it's not covered either unless you have a BMI 40 and over or under 40 with two major health issues. Are you sure it's not covered at all?

It is a definite exclusion on my plan, im going to double-check with my husband's employer but if it's an exclusion then it will not be covered no matter what.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
