Sleeve to Mini Bypass Short Time Off Work

Recommended Posts

Hello All-

I am scheduled for Sleeve Revision to Mini-Bypass on Sept 29th. I do not have enough vacation time to take extended time off, so I will be returning to work in 5 days. I am having my surgery with Dr. Ilan. Any tips, advice, input, or expectations you would like to share? I took off 2 weeks with my sleeve and was bored to tears after about 5 days. So, I'm confident I'll be fine to return to my desk job so quickly. Also, it has been rumored that my weight loss will much slower with the second surgery than it was with the Sleeve. Anybody have any insight on this? Thanks in advance.

Good luck with your surgery next week!

I took off 1 week from work then went back to my desk job.

My tips to recover quickly for your return to work are:

1. Get off the pain pills as quickly as you can.

2. Walk as much as possible as soon as possible.

3. Focus on Fluid consumption right away; sip sip sip, then sip some more.

4. Try to get as much quality sleep as possible.

I think it largely depends on whether you have complications or not, but without complications I could have returned to work after my sleeve-RYN conversion after five days. I was very tired at that point, but my pain was mostly under control with the exception of gas pain which I experienced rather intensely from around days 5-12. I would recommend walking as much as possible (you probably know that) but if it makes you feel better I felt like my recovery from bypass was a breeze compared to the sleeve. It's all individual, but I hope things go smoothly for you!

I am scheduled for a sleeve revision to gastric bypass, however I never heard of a mini bypass. Can you explain what the difference is?

Instead of 2 anastamosis, there is only one. A gastric bypass involves 2 connections to the intestines, the Mini Gastric only involves 1 connection. They are very similar otherwise. What are your current stats? When did you get your sleeve? How much did you lose? What have you chosen to revise?

Hey there, just checking in on your progress. I had the same revision as you 12 days ago. How are you doing?

Hi, I'm not sure about the 5 days. I don't know what the mini bypass is. I took 8 weeks because I was still very sluggish. I had private disability insurance so it wasn't an issue. Bypass is more involved than sleeve, so don't rush recuperation. I was told weight loss would be slower also. Since surgery on 11/20 I have lost 27 pounds. I'm losing now about .5 to 1.0 lbs a week. I'm not having any bread rice or potatoes, limiting all sugar and carbs. My exercising is limited because I have a bad back, but I'm trying. Good luck and let me know how you are doing.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
