Always mention new-onset pain to your surgeon.

Have you had a BM? If not, you'll want to start thinking about getting things to happen in the next day or two in that area...

No problem in that area Berry78 :) Going to take it easy today and give it a day to see what happens. Ive read the blogs and this seems normal as swelling goes down. and body still handling the trauma.

Update: Dr said my drain most likely moved which is causing the pain. Its pretty intense. Good thing is they will be removing it on Thursday. Bad thing is I will be living with the pain and have to take the liquid pain meds until then...a small price to pay

Hi HDScarlett! I'm glad you got to the cause of that pain and I'm glad it's only a couple more days to resolve. I feel ok today - I had to remove the waterproof wound bandages- made me dizzy, but I'm a wimp. This afternoon I go to my primary care doc for a quick check and then Friday I see my surgeon. Hopefully thing will start to settle down. Wishing you all good luck!

Same to you! Having a good night and a great hair day so I'm psyched. Lol. My incisions are dissolvable stitches with a rubber cement waterproof type paint over them. The stuff just flakes off when healed. Easy peasy.

Hi again, my surgery was also the 25th. My whole front feels sore and bloated. I also don't need pain meds as you mentioned. I gained 5 lbs of Water weight in the hospital and it's still there! I'm peeing very little. Hoping all this calms down. I took a walk yesterday and the moving helps a lot, but even my "fat" clothes hurt around my middle, so I can't wait to loose the Fluid. Has anyone else gone through this?

If you aren't peeing a lot I'd call your surgeon. That's potentially cause for alarm since your body is either holding onto the liquid or you aren't consuming enough. I pee around 6-8x a day and none are small. Could be nothing but I'd let them know.

My stomach is still swollen and retaining liquid (sleeved 8/23). My clothes all fit but feel a smidge tight. I also look 7-8 months pregnant [emoji85]

Hi no problems in the peeing dept. I posted an update re my drain moving which caused the pain. Feeling much better now! If not for the drain, I could have gone back to work. But I also know that I cant do too much too soon. I can see my shape changing already and I have ankles again! :}

When you start meeting your fluid goals your body will be able to release all that swelling. Walking definitely helps too.

Ok everyone, the JP drain was removed today. Before I went in, I was in sooooo much pain I had no idea how I was going to get dressed and in the car to go to the appointment. I took a dose of my pain meds, and made it in. As soon as they took the drain out Viola', the pain disappeared !!! I am not kidding. I feel like a million bucks again.

Going forward I will be making updates to My Story on my Profile. Best of luck to everyone!

The drain was the source of 95% of my pain, I was so happy when they took out this morning. I was sleeved 8/30, sent home today. Onward and upward!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
