Hi I am 2 weeks post op and I am walking 2 miles but afterwards I am so exhausted. So today I only walked 35 minutes instead of 48 and I am still totally exhausted. My Dr. said to walk 1/2 hour in the a.m and 1/2 hour in the p.m. Does anyone else have this issue with energy?

Don't forget we really don't have much in our bodies. The first 3.5 weeks I was on an all liquid diet...taking a shower took up all my energy lol I was legitimately drained for the rest of the day. Walking 30 min was all I could do. This is totally normal. Once you start introducing foods and Protein in your diet, your energy levels will increase. I'm a month out and my energy levels are now just finally increasing. Still not even 100% yet. But that could be the fact that I have 12 hour days by the time I wake up and get home from work too.

i agree with Shereen. and yes i'm 5 weeks out and if i walk/exercise too much, it really takes it out of you.

that seems like an awful lot of walking for a fresh post-op patient. especially in the middle of the summer. i would back that WAY down. to like 20 minutes. if you do that everyday and you feel good, then increase to 30, and so forth.

i personally think an hour of walking a day, in the summer, that new a post-op, is insane. i can't believe your doctor said that. esp for an obese person who's probably not used to exercise and is recovering from surgery.

wow this is making me mad now. i better leave.

My surgeon recommended 30 minutes of walking each and every day. Two miles is good but did you walk two miles a day prior to surgery and if so were you exhausted then also?

At 2 weeks post-op, you are at the beginning of the journey. This might be more of a question to ask if you still feel this way several months post-op.

The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. Not meeting your daily vitamin requirement (such as B12) can cause weakness and exhaustion. Dehydration can cause exhaustion, especially during the heat of summer. During surgery, you were probably given antibiotics. Antibiotics not only kills bad bacteria but also good bacteria in the gut. Therefore it is important to reestablish the colonies of good bacteria. That is why many doctors recommend that you take Probiotics after you complete taking antibiotics. Digestive system can be related to fatigue. Research shows that probiotic benefits may include relief from chronic fatigue symptoms.

Thank you this makes sense. I will ask my dr. about the B12. She doesn't have me taking that yet.

Don't forget you are recovering from major surgery. When I had gall bladder surgery, it was 3 weeks before I could make it through the day without a nap. After my hysterectomy, it took months, and both were laparoscopic surgeries. We may not have stitches from our guggles to our zatches, but our bodies still need time to heal. I agree with the person above that said start out much lower and increase as your body tells you it's OK.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
