Hey Weazer, great to see you too!! I found this thread just last night. Patty, those fires are just horrible, I'm praying for you and everyone else in CA that you will all remain safe. PS Weazer's right, I love the May Banders thread, it is my favorite also. Everyone is there for each other. Come say hello.

Amy, I've been thinking of you today, hope you're doing well. Please write and let us know when you're up to it.

Cindy

Well today was surgery day. It took about 45 min. and the Dr. said everything went perfect. I got a little sick during recovery but the nurse was quick with the meds. Dh got me home and settled in and got to rest pretty good. I had to take pain meds 1 time today but might take some before I go to bed just so I will sleep better. I am very sore but for the most part feeling well. I want to sincerly thank all of you for the kind words and the beautiful prayes. I felt everyone of them and God is truly amazing. I had a bit of an emotional time last night but got past it because I know He is in control and will take of me. I will keep you all up to date on progress with everything

renewedhope how did your surgery go? I pray that you have a speedy recovery and minimal pain. What have you had to eat today.

Am I correct in saying that if tolerable I can have Soup on Saturday as long as it is creamy and thinned down.

Praise God! So glad to read you are doing well.

Your doctor or your nutritionist supplies the post op protocol. It's better to ask the boss what is acceptable for the first few days and weeks as they are the ones who are determining your healing time.

My protocol was 3 days of Clear liquids consumed in 2oz. quantities every half hour; followed by 12 days of liquids consumed in 4 oz quantities every hour (until tomorrow when I see my Nutritionist, when I hopefully will be given the go ahead for Phase 2: mushies).

Everything consumed had a purpose: for liquid reasons and/or Protein reasons. All caloric intake is counted and turned in to my doctor and nutritionist when I see them.

My allowable liquids were: straw consistency Soups (but not milkshake thickness), though the liquid was allowed to coat the spoon. I purchased a stick blender and blenderized several Campbells creamy and chunky Soups and the taste and slight texture was always a welcome change to the Protein shakes. I was also allowed low-fat yogurt and sugar-free Jello. I even created a dish of tuna fish or canned chicken, with half plain yogurt and half mayo, blenderized to a reasonable liquid consistency and it was OK by my bosses.

I was told that my band is not restricting me to eat yet, so I have to restrict myself. The best way is to eat from sun-up until sundown, small portions, during the liquid stage and during the mushies.

I haven't yet had a fill, nor do I know my solid food protocol yet, so I'm sure there will be a change in my schedule. But for now, I'm all liquid all the time.

When I first began this process I thought the protocol was the same for all banders, but I've learned that it varies from doc to doc according to many people on this board.

Grace and peace!

Today I have had Water, 1 popsicle and about 1/2 container of sf Jello. The gas is a little worse tonight. I tried to lay down and can't lay flat in the bed. My dh helped me stack pillows and that has helped a ton. My doc said that I can start full liquids tommorow and yes, I can do creamed Soups that are thinned. She reccomends Soup at hand but thinned a little more. I am not hungry at all. Oh and BTW I brought 3 extra pounds home from the hospital with me. I'm sure it is fluids.

Praying for a speedy recovery for you, Godzgurl.

Have yall heard from artzgirl?? I wonder how her day went!!

So glad to find this thread! I am a believer and wrestled with the same kinds of issues... am I ultimately relying on the Lord? The conclusion I have come up with is yes. God made doctors and science for our good and I should heal what ails me...which, right now is morbid obesity. I find that in giving your body to a human to do surgery requires trusting in the Lord! And I tell ya, it has been freeing to finally realize that I can't do it on my own, and that I need help. This can help. Simple as that, and I would be crazy not to seriously consider it. So, after much prayer and research, it's finally only a week away! :clap2: Woo-hoo! I have lost 14 lbs since my initial consult, which is oh so exciting! I forgot how good it feels to lose weight. I can't wait to lose more :D

Patty - I will be praying for you! I can't imagine how bad that would be, but I am glad it sounds like you are getting some relief from the winds and smoke.

Peace,

Brooke

Ask you doc about ice cream. I don't want ice cream because milk products tend to "gunk up" in your throat. They would be hard for me to tolerate anytime soon, but everyone is different. My throat is sore, too. It is from the breathing tube used during surgery. I have been sucking on halls cough droops this evening.

Hello all!! I'm praying for your recoveries and for those of you in CA with the fires! My mom just moved there last month so I've been watching it closely. She didn't get evacuated but is watching as well. Thank God the winds are starting to die down.

Blessings to all!

Renewedhope and Godzgurl, Two new bandits! How wonderful for you both. My throat hurt for an entire week after the surg. I don't remember what I ate to make it feel better. Popcycles had a funny taste the first time I tried them after the surg. Now I eat a couple of boxes a week of them (the sugar free kind). Maybe warm tea or warm lemonaid.

I am amazed at the wonderful people on this thread. You are all just genuine nice people. I thank the Lord for coming into our hearts and guiding and directing us each day.

Thank you God for the technology that helps us to help ourselves.

Blessings, Weazer

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
