Sorry, but Hair loss is a known, temporary, side effect of the surgery. Mostly there isn't anything that can be done about it, though someone will probably get on and mention some potion that their hairdresser recommends. Might work, I dunno.

But in general, the hair loss happens from 3-8 months, then stops, and starts growing back in by 12 months post op.

I started losing my hair during the preop diet, so I'm sitting here at 2.5 months post op with visibly thinned hair. Don't know what I'm looking at when my "real" hair loss starts!

I had a 2/9 surgery and I'm in the Hair loss phase too. Comes with losing a lot of weight very quickly. I'm lucky enough to have very thick hair that I imagine won't show too much of the loss (or at least I hope!) but it still feels disconcerting to see the clumps come out in the shower. Fortunately, as has been said, it should stop in a few months :)

If you search this site and enter Hair loss you will find so much information on it and all the different experiences people have had with it.

Everyone is different and it is going to happen. Sleeved 9/6/16 and my hair fall out just slowed down. About 50% has fallen.

I bought a natural Shampoo for thinning hair so it's gentle on what I have left. I would stay away from the chemical shampoos that promise Hair growth and take your supplements and Protein. I also added evening primrose (capsule) to my Supplement routine. It has helped me.

My doctor said when your body goes into shock and is deprived of nutrition for long periods of time you hair will fall. Once it stabilizes it stops. Good luck to you.

I have my VSG on 12/30/16 and I Have lost TONS of hair. Totally noticeable thinning hair, all over my head. I have lost total of 68lbs so far. I have been taking my Vitamins and just started using this scalp spray called " PHYTO SPECIFIC " hoping it will it helps my hair grow back quicker. I know the shedding can't really be stopped but as long as I see some new growth, I'll be happy. I'm also going to see my PCP to see if I can get on Sprinolatcone. It is potassium sparing/aldosterone antagonist that is used for high blood pressure and can cause Hair growth.

Hair loss 5 months to two years. A wash and wear wig saved my life. I took every hair Vitamin, shampoos, Biotin, bought that hair powder and it went to The trash. Note, a wig has to be tried on. NEVER buy one online.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
