Gastric sleeve left side pain

Recommended Posts

I had the lap band surgery. Then they removed the lp band and did a sleeve. I've been having pain in my left quadrant for about a year now. This whole process has been very irritating for me. They did a bunch of tests and they say that the pain might be not very bad and I would have to just deal with it. It seems screwed up to me because I don't think I should be feeling any pain.. all they did was make my stomach smaller. They said it may be in my colon or in my gallbladder. This is a frustrating subject for me.

I had lap band in 2011..taken out in 2016.. sleeve done 2/10/17... im only four months post op but ive had the same left shoulder pain. they say it takes some time to go away. and my surgeon said it could have to do with how I was positioned during surgery.

First off, if a surgeon told you that left flank pain could be due to your gallbladder, run! Your gallbladder is on your right side and I've had this pain MANY times before, With regard to what you're describing it sounds much like the same pain that I experienced at about 6 months post lap band surgery. I recently found out that it was a result of my liver, stomach, and upper intestines fusing together with scar tissue. I'd see if you could get a CT scan to see if this could be the case.

The surgeon may have suspected gallbladder because it's a somewhat common condition with wls patients and believed there was some degree of referred pain :)

Can anyone out there give me an advice? My doctor ordered a test done on my colon to see if there is anything in the intestines. i did happen to lose a lot of weight but it shouldn't be a the cost of me having pain in the left quadrant. anything to expect when they this test???

Maybe that is what your left quadrant pain is. I'm only 2 weeks out but occasionally it hurts. Maybe it's a build up of scar tissue?

Yeah. I've been dealing with this situation for a long time. The pain is on the left side of my abdomen. It may be gallstones. They are doing some further testing in a couple of days. Is it normal to feel this type of excruciating pain? It goes a way a bit with advil. It feels like some sort of tension and release, and cramping.

I'm still at a loss for why I feel this pain. Are you supposed to feel the staples (seriously) in your stomach? It can be really bad at times.

they say it could be gallstone related but its on the left side. not on the right side. i do have a family history of depression but its actual pain, it feels like a cramping or muscular pain. ive been having this for like a year and a half now.

I had gallstones and I always felt it as referred pain on my left side. It went away after I had gallbladder out.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
