I see this word often out here but I'm not clear exactly what it is? Can someone please tell me exactly what Dumping is? My imagination tells me it's diarrhea but I would guess there is more to it for people that have had bariatric surgery. Sorry if this is too graphic.

Dumping syndrome, also called “rapid gastric emptying”:

  • Happens when food (especially sugar) moves too quickly from the stomach into the small intestines
  • Is common after bariatric procedures that bypass a large portion of the small intestine, like gastric bypass surgery
  • Comes in two forms: early dumping (30 minutes after eating) and late dumping (over time)
  • Includes symptoms like nausea, diarrhea, bloating, fainting, anxiety, and weakness
  • Is usually treated effectively by diet changes and/or lying down after eating (does not usually require medical treatment)
  • Is often thought of as a “good thing” by weight loss surgery patients since it discourages poor diet choices

It's happened to me when I first started eating solids. My stomach would hurt, I threw up, and needed to lie down. I was told it was dumping syndrome because I ate too fast or maybe the food I ate had too much of something in it (sugar? Salt? ....).

Different for everyone
Just eat little, chew slowly and make good choices and you will avoid it
I have suffered once and just felt so tired i needed to go sleep
I just only eat food I make now that way I know what's I. It

I'm three weeks out and had it the other day on an omelette. Within 20 mins I had to throw up. Our Dr told us its best to walk after dumping to help things move along. That did the trick. I've been slightly nauseous since but I think it's because my stomach isn't fully healed and dumping was hard on it.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
