What do you wish you would have know pre-op?

I have not had any complications at all... no gerd, no pain... the only thing I wished I had known is that it is possible that when you go home you will be heavier than when you went into the hospital. Some people, me included, gain weight from the IV fluids. I was almost 10 pounds heavier and it was so disappointing. Yes, you lose it all but it was quite a shocker to me.

It seems like the two options are dumping syndrome or GERD....I don't know which is worse?

I don't have any ill effects now ...I was sleeved March.23rd, 2017. I was very exhausted weeks 3-5 for some reason. No pain from surgery after the 2nd day. Just the tiredness , but it gets better everyday now.

I have no GERD or dumping. No Hair loss either (YET). My experience has been great so far. I do agree that the recovery was harder than I expected. Some people seem to bounce back quickly, but I really didn't start feeling like myself again until almost four weeks out. The pain was more than I expected so I stayed on Oxycontin longer than I would have liked and Oxycontin kept me awake, which only slowed down the healing, in my opinion. I was a zombie.

I wish I:

  • would have known that I'd have a drain. I wasn't told until right before the sugery and had it for ten days. It was fine but weird and unexpected.
  • had bought large Tegaderm film online to bandage said drain. The surgeon gave me three to take home and i needed more in three days and had a hell of a time finding it. I walked from pharmacy to pharmacy when I felt like crap.
  • had taken photos of myself in tight clothing and taken my measurements.
  • had asked more people to visit.
  • had done a lap-band to sleeve conversion years ago. I love the sleeve!

Good luck to you!

I forgot to mention that I wish I'd known how helpful tracking on My Fitness Pal would be. I've tracked with a vengeance. I'm on a 141 day streak and I think it's made all the difference from my previous bariatric surgeries. :-)

That losing is easier during the first few weeks and months. I know I was tired and weak but if I had tried a little harder, I could have lost more than I did. The pace slows down as you move away from your surgery date..

I wish I had known how how easy the surgery and recovery would be for me! I was so scared and nervous.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
