I just got back from my sleep study...Talk about failure. I tossed and turned so much the tech had to come in twice to reconnect me. I think I might have gotten an hour or so of sleep. I usually can sleep anywhere as I travel for work. The tech couldn't tell me anything but I have a feeling it will be "inconclusive" and rescheduled. Anyone else have trouble sleeping in the sleep study? What happened?

I did too. The tech came in literally every hour or so to reconnect me at one point she's like I don't understand how you took the tape off your arm in your sleep [emoji23][emoji23] she didn't tell me anything either. When the results came tho it showed I stopped breathing 9 times every hour, which I guess is considered mild and even with all the tossing and turning there was no restless leg syndrome or anything like that. I wouldn't worry too much about it those machines are equipped to pick up everything I'm sure you will get some results even if it was only a little sleep.

OMG! I had the worst time trying to sleep during my sleep study. I slept an hour and a half and they were able to get enough information :)

Well I should know something this week..I hope they got enough information..The surgeon said if I have sleep apnea I would need to be on the CPAP for at least a month.

I had to go back and re accomplish mine. Dr gave me a sleep aide. Severe apnea is 30 or more episodes per hour. I had 62 average episodes per hour. The CPAP is awesome. Best rest ever. I use to sleep 12 and 15 hours a day. Now 4 hours and I can be rested the whole day. And no more naps. Awesome machine.

I have sleep apnea and use the cpap machine since August 2015. It is comfortable once you get used to it.

I got the phone call yesterday from the sleep study place that my dr would like them to schedule a follow-up study with a cpap as they determined I have the Apnea. No details other than that. So I asked when the next available appointment was and they had a cancellation that day and so I hopped my big ol butt over there last night and slept with a CPAP machine. Felt a bit awkward at first but slept better than I did the last time I was there.

Follow-up appt with the Dr tomorrow so hopefully we will be submitting to insurance for the surgery this week. Finger crossed.

I have obstructive sleep apnea. I'm at the point with my CPAP I can't sleep without it.

I guess I slept more than I thought. Should be submitting to insurance next week once they verify all ducks are in a row. I met with the surgeon and he suggested I set my goal weight lower to 170 which would be over 100 lbs lighter than I am now. Says I will gain back a few and that would put in the right weight. Not sure if I am more nervous that they will approve or or that they won't.

Glad you were able to get in enough hours for them to determine that you had sleep apnea.

Believe me, a few months after using a CPAP machine and you will feel so much better during the day. It really does make a huge difference. Plus, you will have the peace of mind knowing that you aren't going to possibly die in your sleep because you stop breathing.

I love my CPAP machine, for me, it only took about a week to get used to. Been using it for a year now.

Good luck!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
