Newbie from Georgia

Hi everyone! My name is Pamela and I am 27 years old. Oddly enough, I was very thin through most of my teenage years, and very athletic. I played a lot of sports in high school. As I got closer to my senior year, I noticed that I was putting on a little weight. I didn't think much about it at the time.

About a year after I graduated, I got married to my high school sweetheart. By that time I had gained over 50 lbs and was at about 200 lbs. I was very concerned about how fast the weight came on. I was also having some female problems too. I went to my doctor and he did several test on me to find out if anything was wrong and the results shocked me! He diagnosed me with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). I had never heard of this before. He told me it was a hormonal disorder and one of the side effects was weight gain. He also told me that I would probably have trouble getting pregnant. My heart dropped when i heard this. I always thought when i was ready i would just be able to have a baby. It took 6 years before we were able to get pregnant and by the grace of God we now have a beautiful, healthy boy.

I've tried every diet there is, I think, and nothing ever worked for me. I was 330lbs at my heaviest. I have been blessed with the opportunity to get the band. I've been banded for about 10 days and i am doing great. I am sooo excited about the journey ahead. I lost 13 lbs on the pre-op diet and have lost 16 lbs since my surgery. I know i rambled but i just wanted to introduce myself and see if anyone else has PCOS that has been banded and can tell me about your experience. Thanks for listening!

Pamela

Renewedhope,

How did the adoption go today? Did you get the 2 week old baby yet?

Just excited for you and wondering how you're doing!!

The adoption is final. He is officially our littly boy (although he's been ours for months). Such a wonderful feeling. The 2 week old is not coming until Thursday morning at 11am. The CPS worker is unable to bring him today. This is really good. Now I can just enjoy today and our adoption of Dylan.

I am doing better as far as eating. I have gotten back on track. Hope things are going well for you too.

hey guys, i got my surgery in Dalton GA by Dr Paynter with the gastric band institute...

good luck... no regrets,, a few complications but no regrets

Congrats on the adoption! I am so happy for you! I'm glad to hear things are going good for you. I had my fill last thursday and I started eating solid foods on Sunday and I have no restriction. I go back on the 15th for another fill, so hopefully I will have restriction soon. Congratulations again and keep us posted about the baby that's coming on thursday. Good Luck and God Bless!

Congratulations and :gluck:!!!!!!!!! Keep us posted on how things go.:whoo:

hi folks! I just wanted to introduce myself. I just got insurance approval for Lap Band today after a very long wait (my paperwork didn't get submitted right the first time). I'm so excited!!!:whoo:

I'm getting banded by Dr. Lin at Emory/Crawford Long in Atlanta. I don't have a sugery date yet, but I'm hoping it's before the end of the year.

I have PCOS too and considered just treating that condition surgically-- but was told cysts would return unless I treated the underlying condition...the weight/metabolic syndrome. I'm hoping that one day I will be free of extra weight and cysts!!! :clap2:

Good to meet you all!

great to meat you, kiss. I also have PCOS and can't wait to kick it. I have allready started having more normal cycles after only losing 25 pounds. That may be TMI for most everyone but us PCOSers understand the significance. Just bear with us!!LOL

You will find lots of great support here!! Welcome!

Hi Kissmygrits! Congratulations on your insurance approval. I too have PCOS. Like renewedhope, I'm having regular cycles as well. It's amazing what a little weight loss can do. Just think how much better it will be when we lose it all! Congratulations agains and keep us posted!

Hi everyone!

I told all of you that I had a fill on the 1st and I was feeling no restriction at all. Well today, for whatever reason, I felt it. I've heard others say that it can take a coulple of weeks to kick in. I'm not sure if it was a freak thing or if I'm feeling restriction now. At least I'm feeling something, I was beginning to wonder if it was really in there.

HI Everyone!

I live in Lilburn, GA. Soon to be banded by Dr. Johnson with Atlanta Bariatrics & Emory Johns Creek Hospital. Surgery date is 11/26/07 & I am starting to get nervous now.... The whole thought of Surgery! Yikes!

Looking forward to getting to know everyone better here...
