Newbie from Georgia

Hi everyone! My name is Pamela and I am 27 years old. Oddly enough, I was very thin through most of my teenage years, and very athletic. I played a lot of sports in high school. As I got closer to my senior year, I noticed that I was putting on a little weight. I didn't think much about it at the time.

About a year after I graduated, I got married to my high school sweetheart. By that time I had gained over 50 lbs and was at about 200 lbs. I was very concerned about how fast the weight came on. I was also having some female problems too. I went to my doctor and he did several test on me to find out if anything was wrong and the results shocked me! He diagnosed me with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). I had never heard of this before. He told me it was a hormonal disorder and one of the side effects was weight gain. He also told me that I would probably have trouble getting pregnant. My heart dropped when i heard this. I always thought when i was ready i would just be able to have a baby. It took 6 years before we were able to get pregnant and by the grace of God we now have a beautiful, healthy boy.

I've tried every diet there is, I think, and nothing ever worked for me. I was 330lbs at my heaviest. I have been blessed with the opportunity to get the band. I've been banded for about 10 days and i am doing great. I am sooo excited about the journey ahead. I lost 13 lbs on the pre-op diet and have lost 16 lbs since my surgery. I know i rambled but i just wanted to introduce myself and see if anyone else has PCOS that has been banded and can tell me about your experience. Thanks for listening!

Renewedhope,

i'm so glad you are doing well. You will be sore for a while so just take it easy and rest as much as you can. You are in my prayers. Let us know how you're doing tomorrow.

Renewedhope... just wondering how it's going?

and Jeannie... are things still going well. Nov 16 is getting closer and closer. are you on the sugar busters pre op diet?

Slimshady...congrats on insurance approval. did you get a date set?

I am doing ok. Having a lot of gas pain. We decided to go to walmart last night, and that was too much. I plan on taking it very easy today. Overall, I am doing very well.

Renewedhope,

i can relate. the day after my surgery we went to Hobby Lobby and i over did it. i paid for it the next day. I didn't have a lot of gas pain but they say walking helps (I couldn't do a whole lot of walking though due to nausea). Hope you feel better.

Pamela

I feel better this morning. I think the walking at Walmart probably helped. One of the reasons I went was because of the gas pain. I think I just stayed too long. I am having much less gas today. I slept very well last night. I am having a little watery/bloody drainage from my port incision site. I have a cal in to the doctor. I am hoping it is no big deal. I just put a peice of gauze and tape over it. It's not draining a lot, but it is draining. I will keep you posted.

have a great day!!

Pamela

Jeannie,

I am doing great!!! I feel like everythings back to normal now...just waiting to get my 1st fill on Nov. 1st. I've been walking almost everyday and actually started jogging a little. I found that the sugar busters diet wasn't all that bad because i still got to have bread and carbs in whole grain form. I'm really excited for you. Thanks for all the support and keep me posted on your progress. God bless!!!!

Pamela

Slimshady,

:whoo:Congratulations!!!!!

Let us know how your appt goes and when the date of the surgery is.

Do you know if you'll have to do a pre-op diet? Good Luck!

Just giving an update on my surgery. I was banded Oct. 18. No fill yet, but I have already lost 16 pounds. Started protein shakes which is going well. My incision sites are all healing except one. One has opened and draining slightly, but the docs said it was okay, just ot keep it clean and covered!

I too am in the Atlanta area. I am going to attend the information seminar at Emory on 10/30/07. I am glad to hear your process has not been that long. I pray mine goes just as smoothly. My primary insurance is BCBS Select(HMO) currently until 12/31/07. My secondary is BCBS PPO as well. Effective 01/01/08 I will have AETNA(HMO) and secondary AETNA PPO. What is your BMI? did you have any co-morbidities?

I am desperate to know if I will be having to face a battle with my insurances.:help:
