Newbie from Georgia

Hi everyone! My name is Pamela and I am 27 years old. Oddly enough, I was very thin through most of my teenage years, and very athletic. I played a lot of sports in high school. As I got closer to my senior year, I noticed that I was putting on a little weight. I didn't think much about it at the time.

About a year after I graduated, I got married to my high school sweetheart. By that time I had gained over 50 lbs and was at about 200 lbs. I was very concerned about how fast the weight came on. I was also having some female problems too. I went to my doctor and he did several test on me to find out if anything was wrong and the results shocked me! He diagnosed me with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). I had never heard of this before. He told me it was a hormonal disorder and one of the side effects was weight gain. He also told me that I would probably have trouble getting pregnant. My heart dropped when i heard this. I always thought when i was ready i would just be able to have a baby. It took 6 years before we were able to get pregnant and by the grace of God we now have a beautiful, healthy boy.

I've tried every diet there is, I think, and nothing ever worked for me. I was 330lbs at my heaviest. I have been blessed with the opportunity to get the band. I've been banded for about 10 days and i am doing great. I am sooo excited about the journey ahead. I lost 13 lbs on the pre-op diet and have lost 16 lbs since my surgery. I know i rambled but i just wanted to introduce myself and see if anyone else has PCOS that has been banded and can tell me about your experience. Thanks for listening!

I live in GA and I am tired of being overweight....I have been thinking about the Lap Band, but I have no idea what Dr.? Anything...can somebody help me?

Welcome Trina. You have come to the right place to get answers. Where in Georgia do you live? You usually have to start by attending a lapband seminar hosted by your local hospital and doctors.

Hi Trina! This is a good place to start for information. There are a lot of Georgians here that will be happy to help you. Maybe some of us can help you out a little more once we know where you live. Good luck!!

Hi everyone!

I had my first fill today and things went great. The nurse said I was doing very well. I've lost a total of 38.5 lbs. I have a 10cc band and she only put 2cc's in it. She said she likes to start out with a small amount and evaluate every two week to see if I need an adjustment. The fill was slightly painful but not too terribly bad. I'm excited to get to start eating solids in a few days (I'm on liquids for 3 days and then I'll progress to solids). Thanks everyone for all the support.

Pamela,

Concrats!! Sounds like you are doing great.

This is on a totally different subject, but I think I told yall that we are in the process of adopting a little boy. We got him when he was 2 months old. He is 11 months old now. We will finalize his adoption on Monday. Since we got him we have become foster parents. Our social worker called this afternoon and we are going to get a 2 week old little boy on Monday afternoon!!!! WOW!! We just completed our certification. Was not planning for one this little this quick. I am only 1 week post op and I will have 2 who can't walk. God does have a sense of humor.

Feeling both overwhelmed and blessed!!!

OMG!!! Congratulations on your adoption and good luck with the tiny one. Just remember, more is not put on you than it is felt you can handle. Take care of yourself and keep us updated.

Renewedhope,

Congrats on the adoption and getting such a little one. I can tell that you have a passion for children and that's wonderful. You're going to be fine, I can't imagine having two that small. Enjoy it while you can, they grow up sooo fast. Cangratulations again and Good Luck!

Jeannie,

Wow, only 2 weeks away from getting the band! Have you found the Sugar Buster Diet pretty easy to follow? I have had such a great experience with Dr. Bagnato's office and I really like the nurse at the Obesity Clinic who did my fill. She was great about answering any questions I had and taking up a lot of time talking with me about how things are going. Keep up the good work!
