Newbie from Georgia

Hi everyone! My name is Pamela and I am 27 years old. Oddly enough, I was very thin through most of my teenage years, and very athletic. I played a lot of sports in high school. As I got closer to my senior year, I noticed that I was putting on a little weight. I didn't think much about it at the time.

About a year after I graduated, I got married to my high school sweetheart. By that time I had gained over 50 lbs and was at about 200 lbs. I was very concerned about how fast the weight came on. I was also having some female problems too. I went to my doctor and he did several test on me to find out if anything was wrong and the results shocked me! He diagnosed me with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). I had never heard of this before. He told me it was a hormonal disorder and one of the side effects was weight gain. He also told me that I would probably have trouble getting pregnant. My heart dropped when i heard this. I always thought when i was ready i would just be able to have a baby. It took 6 years before we were able to get pregnant and by the grace of God we now have a beautiful, healthy boy.

I've tried every diet there is, I think, and nothing ever worked for me. I was 330lbs at my heaviest. I have been blessed with the opportunity to get the band. I've been banded for about 10 days and i am doing great. I am sooo excited about the journey ahead. I lost 13 lbs on the pre-op diet and have lost 16 lbs since my surgery. I know i rambled but i just wanted to introduce myself and see if anyone else has PCOS that has been banded and can tell me about your experience. Thanks for listening!

Hi guys, I am 2 days post op and feeling pretty damn good. My boyfriend and I even walk around the park yesterday with no problem. The only issues i've had is with gas and constipation. I took some gas x strips and they worked like a charm. Also Colace works greaat for the constipation issue. The adult strength tylenol seems to help with the pain so i am no longer taking the liquid vicodin. Sticking to the liquid diet so far and it hasnt been too bad. I hope everyone is doing great.

Kissmygrits, will you be banded by Dr. Lin at Emory? He is a really good surgeon. Will you have it at the Clifton Rd location or Crawford long? I was banded at Crawford Long.

Have a great day Everyone. :(

CONGRATULATIONS BUTTERCUP! YOU DID IT!

And it sounds like you are doing great...!

Is your hunger gone?

Hey Buttercup! I am so glad to hear that you are doing so well. It's great that you're only 2 days out and feeling so good. Keep us posted on how things are going and good luck.

Hi all!

I just wanted to check in and let you all know that y first day back at work was a breeze. I was dreading it so much but it turns out that I had no problem at all. Hope all of you are doing well. Take care.

Hey everyone. Congrats Buttercup! I felt really good after surgery too, and I know that is a HUGE relief.

I haven't posted in awhile. It has been pretty busy around here with the new baby. To be completely honest, I am a little discouraged with myself and my band right now. I had my first fill on the 22 of November and I don't have any restriction. I have 4cc in a 10cc band. I can eat anything, and am frustrated with myself because I have been eating anything. I have not lost any weight in a couple of weeks. Ok, so what am I going to do about it. I am reading SugarBusters. I am realizing that at least until I get good restriction this is still all up to me. The band cannot help me yet, and I don't want to gain back what I have already lost. I called my doctor today and she is not going to make me wait another month for a fill. I go Tuesday for my 2nd fill. I SO HOPE THAT HELPS. Everyday I say that I will get back on track and I am really having a hard time doing that. I know why I need to and I know that I can damage my band if I don't. SO WHY IS IT SO FREAKIN HARD!!!

Sorry to be such a downer, but venting actually makes me feel better.

Hey Renewedhope. How's the new baby? I have a 10cc band, my first fill was 2ccs and I had no restriction either. My second fill was another 2ccs and I had pretty good restriction for about a week. Now I'm back to being able to eat anything too. It's been really hard to stay on top of this, but I'm just trying to hold out and do the best I can until I get to my "sweet spot". SugarBusters is a really good diet. I did it for my pre-op diet and I lost 16 lbs in about 3 weeks. Good luck and don't be discouraged. Once you get some decent restriction, things will be a lot easier.

Renewedhope,

Don't get discouraged. This will work for you... it just may take a little more time to get the effect of the band. You've already lost so much! Don't lose sight of that. I would love to be in you position of almost 30 pounds down! Plus, I don't know about you, but if you're anything like me-- staying the same weight is a victory because most of the time in my life I'm always going up! You will get there!

Buttercup,

It's good to hear that you are doing well. Yes, I'm going with Dr. Lin all the way! In fact, I met with him and had my preop testing the day of your surgery. LOL. I will be banded at Emory U. Hospital. I had a strong preference for Crawford Long, but it was more important for me to get a Dec. surgery date wherever Dr. Lin happened to be that day.

I hope I feel as good as you do afterwards!

Pamela,

Thank you for the encouragement. Ijust notice you have lost 50lbs!!!!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!! I am so proud for you.

Renewed

Keep your thoguhts positive. You are not doing this to wake up tomorrow and be thin it is a long drawn out process. You can and will get back on track. Go kiss the baby for all of us and know that we are all here to support you.

Buttercup

Congratulations and good luck. Keep coming here for support it is a great resource.

Take care all.

Thanks for the encouragement. I have never been known for my patience.

Kiss, you are right, I am usually gaining rather than staying the same. I really hope that the fill on Tuesday will make a difference.

The baby is doing great!! He is so sweet. He rolled over for the first time tonight. He is only 6 weeks old. What a smart little fella. My other baby turned one last Saturday!! His name is Dylan. You may remember me saying that we just adopted him in November. He has lived with us since he was 2 months old. I am so thankful that he is ours. I was watching him play tonight and thinking that it still seems too good to be true. I also have an 8 year old biological son. I have SOOO much to be thankful for, and yes, my band is still on that list. Just ready to put it to work.

Amy

Hi AtlSpeedy, Thanks. I feel great. I went to the movies and walk in the mall today. Hope everyone else is doing well also.

It seems that anyone I have ever told about PCOS (including my Primary care Physician) has looked at me as if it was just an excuse on paper for being miserable and overweight.

I was diagnosed with it a few years back, after a great ordeal with infertility. I had to have the tests, and take clomid to drop eggs. I do have two beautiful daughters now, and I am 33yrs. old. Done having kids... I am now ready to attack this weight. I am just about 230lbs. which is what I weighed on the day I went in to give birth to my second daughter in 2002.

I am still battling many of the symptoms of PCOS. I am hoping that weight loss will help bring my periods and hormones more regular. Time will tell.

My surgery is 10 days away and I can't freakin' wait!!!!! I am very mentally prepared and I am feeling strong!!! Anyone who has some wisdom for getting through the first couple weeks.... please share!!!!!!!!!
