Pre-op Lap Band Shopping List

Recommended Posts

Oh, BTW...after surgery, be sure to have a telephone by your bed/chair. This way you won't have to get up and down to answer it. Also, be sure to have the TV remote, kleenex, reading lamp, crafts, books, etc. on table. It's nice to plan ahead. Hugs

Some things you may want to add that I found useful:

Tissues

A&D ointment incase of bouts of diahreah

Crushed Ice (if you know someone who has a crusher you can fill up containers and freeze them)

Slippers (my feet were always cold)

Lots of giant sized band-aids (my doc put them over steri-strips)

Baby food grinder/processor for your meats (meat babyfood tastes gross)

Recliner to sleep in. (I'm still sleeping in mine 3 weeks post-op tomorrow.)

Someone to take care of you who really loves you. (hubby, wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, mom, dad, etc)

I have to say I used just about everything else on the list. Sweatpants, really comfortable worn in t-shirts and slip on shoes were my best friends.

You know, they now have Gas X strips (like the listerine strips) that just disolve in your mouth! I thought those would be great! ;)

Hi, thanks for your reply. Can't remember what my BMI is but I'm 124kg and 5'10" so need to lose around 50kg - except that I remember being that thin when in my mid-20's and frankly it wasn't a very good look. I'm going to aim to lose around 30kg - but most importantly I want to stay that way. Can't stand the yo yo dieting that I've been experiencing my entire adult life. My doctor described me as being 'chronically overweight' in her referral to the surgeon. Bit embarrassing really. It is good to have this site as I haven't shared my plans with anyone other than immediate family so need some external support. Interesting isn't it that I don't want to share this with my closest friends. I guess there is a degree of discomfort but mostly I don't want to have to explain my decision and put up with the objections. I'd rather just lose the weight. I'll probably tell people that I'm on Weight Watchers - much more acceptable! Also, having lost 20kg on at least 5 occasions in the past I hate the scrutiny that you go through - people have the best intentions in saying wow you look great etc but in some ways I hate the visibilty. Going to be an interesting journey. thanks for your reply.

Thanks for the list; I am going shopping tomorrow. I am having my surgery on October 3rd. I am going to get everything but the tongs...I just can't make myself do it.

Thanks for the list. I hope to be using it soon. Waiting on my insurance approval letter. They said the nutritionist will start me on the liquid diet as soon as the letter arrives. I hope to get the surgery scheduled by end of October, first of November!

Hi Jude,

Me too - I don't know if I am squirming with embarrassment or the enormous sense of failure, either way, only my husband knows about my pending banding. I feel like I am judged on what I look like etc now, and I am just not ready for the scrutiny and then the conversations about me I know will take place when I am not around.

Good luck with your surgery!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
