1st Night of my journey

Recommended Posts

My surgery was at 1230pm today. Unfortunately, my single incision turned into two. The doctor says it was because of my height (6'7"). He did mention it could happen.

I was released at 630pm, and now home in a lounger. The nurses advised me not to sleep on my back until the gas pressure is gone. The gas pressure certainly is still real thing.

Surprisingly, liquids seem to be going down well. Granted small sips, but I drank 8oz of Water at hospital in 3 hours, and now 4oz in less than an hour.

My surgeon didn't require a pre-op diet, except the day before the surgery. I put on a few pounds, but my SW 372 GW 260

Good luck to the rest of February sleevers. Let's do our journey together.

Doing a pre op really really helps with going to liquid. It helps to ease the shock of going from eating to drinking liquid and purée for 6-8 weeks. Going from steak and potatoes one day to clear broth can be traumatic.

Wow! Every surgery is definitely different.
I had 3 incisions plus an incision for drainage so total of 4.
I stayed in the hospital for 1 day. Surgery was @ 9 am, could not have anything to drink until after my swallow test at 1:00 am.
I was able to sleep on my back with no problem, I walked every two hours which helped tremendously with the gas.
The pre-op diet based on what my surgeon described to me is to help you loose weight prior to surgery to help shrink the liver. They want the liver small as possible as they have to bypass to get to your stomach & they don't want to cause injury to the liver. My pre-op diet did not consist of just liquids but a low carb diet.

Way to go on the liquids!

I had a weird taste in my mouth for a week or so after surgery. I related it to the surgery and the fact that my stomach was operated on. And the taste was from that. If you were like me, it should go away soon. Eating and drinking will not be enjoyable at this point, but just keep doing what you need to do...doctor's eating/water plan...like clockwork. It will get better.

You may also find that slow walking in fresh air will help. Consider sipping while you walk.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
