Warning eat your protein/vitamins!!!!! 8mths post op Gastric bypass

I would like to go ahead and let you know before you read the information below at this moment I am still feeling very sick but I wanted to share this information to see if anyone has experienced this or has any advice to help me!!! I really hope The information I provided makes sense about what I'm trying to say please excuse my writing and grammar. I just need to put this information out as quickly as I can to see if anyone knows anything about what is happening to me.... :-,(

I'm eight months post op!! Everything has been going pretty well until recently, I forget to take my Protein daily and Vitamins daily... I noticed that I can eat more now.... if I wanted to, than I could mths ago. And when I'm swallowing foods and liquids they go down a lot easier now, less restriction but I still have restrictions especially if I eat meat. During my current eight months I have not felt as hungry... with everything going on in my busy personal life and busy work life. I'm not taking my daily vitamins like I did in the beginning of my surgery and I have not had my Protein shakes like I usually would the in the beginning of my surgery. My liquid intake is very low now...I forget to eat and drink now...I don't know how or why but for some reason in my eight months post op gastric bypass, I feel like, I'm use to my new stomach and it doesn't feel so different anymore... so I haven't stayed aware or too concerned with my protein and vitamins and liquids I'm getting in during a day. Example: it's 3 PM and I haven't had Breakfast or lunch and maybe have had a little bit of Water and coffee. This example is what has been going on during my 8 months currently.

This was a big big big mistake!!!!!! The worst thing I could of possibly done to myself... I have had small signs from my body most recently, feeling weak my face looking like a dried-up raisin, my lips being super dry and super dry mouth, especially my tongue and my urine being super strong. Today, all of this caught up to me and I'm currently trying to recover from being so sick hours ago... I have never Felt like this before my body felt like it was shutting down, my vision was blurred I felt fatigue..my heart was racing.. I was dry heaving over and over. And the worst part about it was I couldn't just drink a lot of liquids at one time to help me with my dehydration or eat something to make my stomach feel better, I have to drink slowly and eat slowly because I had gastric bypass. This was a major problem, because I was dry heaving my body was rejecting sips of liquid. I'm malnourished from not having vitamins and I'm dehydrated, I'm pretty sure my body reacted this way because it was not getting what in what I needed-in order to produce energy and function...this is the result of my poor decisions this month..and it all caught up to me today! Forgetting to eat, drink liquids and making sure I have had my protein and vitamins. I was definitely reminded by my body's reaction today. . Saying to myself during my current 8mth post op gastric bypass..."I've done so good since my surgery and everything is good now I have lost the weight so I'm not going to be that concerned with my vitamins as much and nevermind needing protein...Im in my 8mths and I think I'm all good now" ---- I was very wrong thinking this, and suffered from it today and I'm still not well.

Hopefully, I will feel a lot better tomorrow.....to at least go to the store and buy my protein shakes and get my life back in order with drinking my liquid taking my vitamins. And remembering I had gastric bypass and I need to take extra care of myself and be aware of my daily intakes.

Thank you for taking the time to read my current confusion of writing skills LOL I just needed to put this out there as quick as possible and do not have the energy to proofread it to make sure this makes sense thank you so much please respond , if you have had this experience

They are chewable/dissolving. Not gummy though :)

No fun feeling so bad! I think this experience right here is a great reason to have the surgery. You almost have no choice. Your new body will only allow you to be slack for a short time and then it will kick you in the rear. You are forced to do what is right or you will end up in the hospital. Without the surgery, we would just have our pity party, feel crappy, and then just go back to bad habits. I learned some very valuable lessons after my surgery with being very sick. I purposely choose wisely everyday so I won't experience that pain or sickness again!! You are stronger then you think, so look at an old photo at your worst and remind yourself how amazing you are and then get back on track!!

Do they taste chalky? These are not gummy exactly but not chalky tasting but they are chewy hence the name.

I'm 3wks post op and I forget to drink... I can't stand the taste of water or artificial sweetener.. Don't know what I'm going to do [emoji53]
Thanks for the advice...

I was the exact same. I drank OJ mixed with water just to get fluids in. I did this until I could drink water again. One thing that you may want to try is freezing water and then drinking it as it melts. That is how I drink water now, anything else makes me nauseous.

Thanks Crowmilk!

I can stand the taste of juice.. but I was worried it might be too much sugar.. ?

try lots of things to get the Water down. I will mix water and crystal light half and half. try infused water with fruits and veggies. Protein water is great but I also do it half and half as sometime the protein taste is too much. like with any new habit it will be hard at first but just keep forcing it. sip sip sip. it will only take one time of have to be hospitalized with de hydration to let you know how important this one is. good luck to you

@danaymacklin they have the swallow ones, if you are far enough out from surgery.
@soyounique a lady in my support group swears by the true citrus flavor packets - sugar free. I haven't tried it but she loves them and she can't stand artificial sweeteners. They have a few flavors.@martha Parker McNeal had some great advice too.

Hopefully you can find something that works for you to.

I keep thinking about some advice about taking the iron supplements that helped me. The iron supplements can be tough on anyone's GI tract.
Start slowly. The supplement I take is three pills. Start with one pill and day, if all goes well over a couple of weeks, increase it by the next pill. It took me a little while.

Always take it with food, but something without calcium, like a cracker.

If possible give an hour before taking calcium supplement or eating something with calcium.
Or 2 hours after eating/taking calcium.

While it isn't a really big deal, it gives your body the best chance to absorb stuff. The iron and the calcium compete for absorption.

Thanks everyone for the great advice! ?

Dr. Office tells me to just keep trying to find something I can tolerate... ?

That is what you have to do sometimes. I couldn't stand water for the longest and that included smart water but then I found out I liked Fiji water. So artesian water for whatever reason was all I could drink. Also, I couldn't stand protein shakes because they are too thick, but I found out I like protein drinks from Nectar. You will just have to keep trying.

1- Sounds like you are a direct beneficiary and victim of your own success! Congrats from making you life rotate around food, to not having emotional dependence on it 24/7! What a huge psychological transformation! You have identified the problem, another plus. Now you are looking for lasting solutions. Yes, Ideally better not to have the episode, but sounds like it was a great teaching moment. It is very tricky to turn off our eat all the time dialogue, without turning off the other feedback loops. Yes I agree with everyone else, keep trying new fluid choices until you get one that works, make your vitamin regimen a routine instead of a choice. Excited for you that you have made such great progress in such a short time!
