Is dumping syndrome a thing with sleeves?

I was under the impression that dumping syndrome was only an issue for those with bypass, not sleeves.

But over the past two weeks, I've tried being a bit more adventurous with my meals, taking advantage of all the calories allotted to me. I had some sweets last week, and today I had half a pulled pork sandwich.

Shortly after eating them, I got a headache, felt a little dizzy, and felt overheated. Also a little nauseated.

I thought it was a bug going around the office, but I'm detecting a correlation.

Have others experienced this? Is this dumping syndrome?

Sleevers can have dumping too. I say you're blessed because if you are already eating sweets this soon after surgery, you need a reminder not to do it. I only have mini-dumping if I drink my Protein Drink too quickly.

I had my procedure on Sept. 12, so not entirely a newbie. How far out are you?

Don't go get defensive. I had surgery on Nov 1st, started the new diet August 1st. I'm just saying having a little dumping syndrome isn't a bad thing, if it will help you stay on track.

I haven't had it and I've had sleeve. Almost wish i did. I could use some negative (?) Reinforcement. Been reverting to bad habits. It's easier to stop but the fact that I've been doing it this early out is really pissing me off. But i think it's out of my system mostly. I think the fact that I've continued to see results is what's motivating me to clean up my act. I know i can do better and get even better results.

Today is my 5th day with the sleeve. My Dr. and all his information stats dumping syndrome may occur with the sleeve but is more common with the bypass. You will need to avoid foods in high in sugar and fat and also check for lactose intolerance. Hope this helps. :)

I had it once 1.5 weeks after surgery so far. I drank like 3 oz of Fresh pressed hot apple cider and oy! Weak, shaky, and diarrhea for about 15 mins. It was enough to make me avoid all sugars since then.

Torriluv - I feel your pain and shame. I'm 2 weeks out right now and am supposed to be on an all liquid diet still for another week, but I've had a couple of cheat moments...mostly involving eating some Soup noodles, soft Soup potatoes or tiny nibbles of bread, but also 2 chocolate mints that were put in front of me that I didn't say no to. I feel that I am constantly craving bread and pancakes even since a week before the surgery and I just keep daydreaming about when I can have a pancake again. I'm so disappointed in myself considering it's only been 2 weeks since surgery and I'm already thinking this way. I too felt a bit nauseated after my cheating and have really enjoyed seeing the pounds come off on the scale, so I'm hoping I too have straightened myself out.

I didn't start experimenting until after i hit 3 months. I was too scared to do anything else. Once I got the all clear from my NUT I've been not saying no to certain things and im getting my shit together tomorrow.

You are in a critical moment right now in your healing. I would advise you to pleeeeease give yourself more time. I definitely understand the head hunger and impulse to eat things but you are still early enough to really hurt yourself. I'd say consider what you've done and the potential impact it has if it continues or escalates. Understand it was dangerous and reconcile that it CANNOT Happen again. At least until you are more fully healed. Im making the decision right now to not let "bad" carbs back into my life. I know im still early out and i really want to be successful. I don't want to be another failed surgery. Let's do it together! You can do it! Just think in terms of the unhealthy things we want to eat are what kept us at our high weight. Eating them now after surgery won't help us now either. We might still lose weight but it won't always be this way so I'm trying to do the work to get my mind right so i can maintain whatever success i have in the future. It's hard but that's what makes it worth it in the end right?

Please be strong. It went be long until you are on soft foods. It'll get better after that.

I'm sleeved, 18 weeks post op & have dumped a few times. The worst was after drinking too soon after a meal. It was comparable to food poisoning. I get what you get as well, nausea, the sweats etc & I also get bouts of diarrhoea.

So yes. Dumping is most certainly something sleeved patients get.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

        I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.
