I finally got my activity tracker!

Recommended Posts

How can it be so hard to try to get fit?

I wanted to get some more motivation and ordered a Polar activity tracker as a xmas present to myself, since Santa didn't hear my wish. My requirements were that it tracks my heart rate from my wrist, records my sleep and is Water tight.

So I measure my wrist and get the size S, with some room to spare. I'm happy to get a text 2 days later that I can pick it up at the post office... wait, what?!? That's not where I wanted it shipped! It's further away than the actual store I ordered the tracker from!!

So I get on the chat and tell them it's been shipped to the wrong location. Ok, thank you, we will reship it to the correct location. I wait for the new text and again, they tell me to pick it up at the post office. So I repeat, they repeat and for the third time, they get it wrong!

Forth time the charm? Yes and no. It's a the correct location, but when I *try* to put it on, the strap is too short. It's impossible to close in a way that my fingers would have access to any blood. I wonder what the tracker would think about that? Strong heart rate or dead person?

At this time I don't have any trust for the shipping to work, so I go directly to the store. In a blizzard and freezing temperatures. I get a new (or so I thought) tracker size M after 35 minutes of waiting for service. I get home and open the box and the thing has been used! *insert favorite cuss word and multiply*

I have no patience for the chat and make a call to the customer service. The barely out of school sounding girl on the other end just suggests I go back *in the blizzard* and change it. Nope, thank you, get the sales person on the phone. He calls me a bit later and has no answer for me other than come and change it. He will give me a small gift card for my troubles.

So I go, another, but also freezing day. Try the new tracker on my wrist and check that it's unused. Get my gift card. Get home and load the tracker...

And it works!! Finally! I will get fit and track my life even closer than I have since my wls journey started. I'm a sucker for statistics and gadgets...

Now I just have to give the rowing machine a work out. It has been used as my hubbys coat rack for far too long!

This sounds like something I could have written! We must live parallel lives. Look at the bright side. Your blood pressure didn't spike while going through all that grief and cause a stroke. I can see it now in your status update...

"I finally got my tracker to work, but it says my BP is 250/200!"

Have fun with it. I get aggravated at mine when it tells me I need to move when I am driving. I talk to it. "I am moving! I'm going 70 mph! Can't your inertial sensor figure that out!?!"

Hahaa!! All that aggravation had to burn some calories and I bet my BP was high or maybe up to normal, since it's been very low after surgery...

The tracker wanted me to move today while I was enjoying my Soup. Not a chance if I want to eat some at least luke warm food!

Move to Australia and bring loads of cheese-bread with you, please! :)

Mrs. Nilla, your tragedy is my deliriously, joyful entertainment. You should have your own television or radio program or write a column for a newspaper or magazine. If you do decamp for Australia at@@OzRoo's invitation and do take along a grand supply of cheese-bread, I'll pack my toothbrush forthwith and, for good measure, posthaste.

Oh I so need some heat after the freezing cold weather we have had. The snow is covering everything and the streets are so slippery.

My friend flew in from FL today and I ordered a bunch of stuff for him to bring me (and yes, he volonteered). I got a message saying it's all soaked in the rum he brought for another friend... oh well, I guess GENEPRO could taste worse?!?

It's been "break your ears off" cold here for the past week or so. It is supposed to go up into the 50s, but not for a few more days. In addition to the cold here, I got to spend a big chunk of the day in an unheated basement in the mountains (where it got up to a high of 14 degrees) helping replace a pressure tank for a well. Fun fun. I could use some cheese bread in a warm climate with a couple of friendly folks. ;-)

Yes, I remember the slipping and sliding on icy streets in Norway ... especially bad in steep roads/streets going down. Had to move like a crab, sideways.

Wow, GENEPRO with rum flavour .... this could be interesting :D

@@LittleBill

Hope you are wearing your thermal under-ware ..... keep warm!

If I could, I would gladly send the heat to both yourself and Nilla. I am yet to install a second air-con in my West bedroom. Even with 2 fans going full blast, it is still too hot.

We are having our hottest summer, and other countries are having coldest winters.

Anyway, it is only a very long flight to my place, but bring the cheese-bread, and the party is on!

That doesn't count as cold. We had -13F (-25C) last week and a blizzard to top it off...

@@mrsNilla Ohhh, so it's a contest now, eh? :P Well it was so cold here one time the flame in our furnace froze solid. I had to take it out and leave it in the sun for almost the entire day before it finally thawed out and started burning again. It was so cold the bottom broke on the thermometer, and the mercury rolled down the hill on the ice, so we couldn't measure it. :D

Yay! It is early in the morning here, right now, and already 2 fans are blowing. Next step, turn the air-con on ....

Yes, cheese-bread with rum flavoured GENEPRO with awesome company sounds wonderful! :)

@@LittleBill, let's just take @@OzRoo up on her offer and soak up some sun for a change. I will bring the rum flavoured GENEPRO and some bread cheese!

You know I'm just having some fun with you, right? ;-)

Your answer before reminded me of a joke that includes 3 eskimos, a bar and fart

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
