HELP! Freaking out - need honest feedback

It was very tolerable. I was in pain for sure but nothing that made me regret anything. I winced when I tried to move and was restless and unable to get comfortable for the first few days. Other than that, I was fine after those few days. I never cried out in pain, never had a moment where the pain was unbearable. Walking and moving around helps with the gas. Get up and moving as soon as they will let you and as much as they let you.

Mine was 12-5. I used the gas x strips and mine was very tolerable. When I first woke up in had a lot of pressure in my chest but it passed. Good luck.

The walking part is the biggest thing you can do for the gas Pain i had mine done 4/16 it has not been a nightmare by any means. best advice I have is walk and walk more to move the gas out of your belly. Other then the gas pain after surgery their was very little other discomfort of course a little when you first move but otherwise nothing you need to worry about. you seem ready go take that next step and don't worry what your friends say I was there its first step in a better life good luck!!

For me it wasn't that bad. Had pain in my shoulder and neck area for a couple of days, but it went away with the walking. Think of it like this: It's not injury pain, which is different. It's not like you got stabbed in the back and you have to worry about internal injuries and infections etc etc, this is pain that hurts but won't hurt you, if you catch my drift. It's pain that will absolutely go away, and you'll be done with it. There's a quote I heard, I think JFK said it, to paraphrase - "I can withstand any pain as long as I know it will end." That's gotten me through many times in the dentist's chair!

I had a little pain while waking up from surgery.....once I was completely awake I was fine! I never had to take pain meds once I was home. I only spent one night in the hospital.....I did use the pain med pump they had me on, but not really because I was in pain...it was just good drugs...hehehehe You be fine!

I did the same thing. Lol. I was hitting the button every 8 min or whenever I remembered it was there. I don't remember most of that day, but I was feeling fiiiiiiiiine. The next day I had 2 doses of vicoden only. Third day had no pain but took a loading dose of vicoden to get in front of any pain caused by the 3 hour drive home.

There was a woman i was talking with who was sleeved the same day and time as me who had a really hard time with gas and pain. I think we are two examples of extremes.

Even if you have a hard time with gas pains, it's a short term issue. The weight loss and health benefits are worth it.

Had my sleeve on 3rd. No pain issues or problems with gas buildup. Stuck ridgidly to LD and actually only used 3 of 5 Protein shakes a day. My wife says I look like I haven't had surgery other than 5 scars on my torso. I had appendix surgery last year and was familiar with what to expect. Also I had a great Bariatric staff providing guidance and knowledge for the last 6 months. From reading all of these forums it seems there is a wide variance in the process around country and world. The more support you have the easier the process.

I'm having my sleeve tomorrow - and I would say the best advice is to just stay off these forums when you're this close. I've done the same thing as you, and I think I'm purposefully picking out the worst posts - it's the dumbest thing ever - why try to make this worse? I've decided I'm doing this - tomorrow, I'm going to say goodbye to most of my stomach - let's just do it!

I was sleeved on 12/22. Some gas pain but nothing too bad. Did not need pain meds on day 2. Just kept walking. All gas pains were gone after three days. sleeping on my side in 5 days. I wish I would have done this sooner.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
