Hey y'all! I have had a hard time the last few nights with waking up to what feels like a MASSIVE stomach acid attack in my throat lol. I have had GERD/heartburn most of my life, and I take my medicine daily like I should. I just think it's weird it didn't start until the last 2 or 3 nights and it always only happens once but it's so severe it wakes me up. Anyone experience this?

talk to your surgeon - you may need to adjust the dosage on your GERD meds. Also for the first couple weeks post op - I didn't lay completely flat when I slept. I propped myself up with pillows and actually have a mattress frame that elevates. In addition to helping keep the acid from backing up in your throat - it made it so much easier to get in and out of bed. But check on your med dosage - not uncommon for people to need to increase the PPI dosage

I was told by my surgeon that someone with GERD should never have the sleeve, because research has shown it makes it worse. I'd question your surgeon and the clinic/hospital that preformed the surgery.

One of the reasons I didn't have the sleeve was because I already have a raging case of GERD. Bypass will hopefully alleviate that as well.

Mine has always been mild, nothing crazy and most of it was due to how I ate which was so horrible and obviously led to all my weight gain. I didn't really have to take medicine before surgery except for the rare occasion my food sat horrible with me. This is a new kind of burn though. My surgeon knew all about this and knew all other factors about my health and agreed the sleeve would be a good choice. So I don't feel in confident about my choice of surgery, just wasn't sure how common it was to have acid attacks in the middle of the night. I didn't think about the lying flat so I will try sleeping elevated tonight, thank you!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
