DH says just chew it up and spit it out

Recommended Posts

I am only 5 days post-op. My DH has been trying to tempt me to eat pizza and banana bread. He tells me to chew it and then spit it out.

I reminded him that digestion starts in the mouth.

I won't do it. I would be mortified if I accidently swallowed and something got stuck in my band or I vomited!

And....to top it off, I had a dream about chocolate chip cookies...that I ate one and was chewing it in my mouth (tasted so good) and then realized what I was doing and spit it out.

Has anyone else experience their significant other not being supportive?

He knows I am on liquids only!!:faint:

Tulip,

I too, had many dreams that I was eating yummy stuff while I was on liquids. As far as your DH, it sounds like he is consciously or unconsciously trying to sabatoging you. I find that when my DH does that, I make sure that I am more determined to do well. Follow your heart and do what's right for you.

I think that what he is doing goes way beyond not being supportive.

Does he understand that eating right now could cause you SERIOUS problems, up to and possibly including death? (In extreme cases)

I recommend you let him know that it's not helpful and not funny that he is trying to sabotage your operation.

"i hate you." lol, granted she's a chef in training but ;) i feel your pain.

my hubby continuely has ASKED me if i mind if he eats something in front of me...lol. truth is, i still know that he has to eat and it really doesn't bother me. i'm only 2 days post op....but feel full so very easily that seeing others eating "normal" foods really doesn't appeal to me at all.

now how long before this discomfort and tightness goes away? how long until my mid-section just feels normal w/no aches and pains?? someone please help!

Chewing up and spitting doesn't really work. The satisfaction you get is from the swallowing and you cannot do that. You need to firmly tell DH to knock it off. Why is he trying to sabotage you?

I noticed feeling MUCH better...light a lightbulb came on...on day 5. You WILL feel noticeably better every day, but that seemed to be a corner I turned where I felt really human again.

Today is day 5 for me post-op and this is the best day by far. I finally feel like I can move and have some flexibility back. I went to the grocery store and target (even though it took all the energy I had). It will get better!

To everyone else.....re: why my dh is trying to sabotage me. I don't know. He says that he knows that I have always loved food and he is just trying to make me feel better the only way that he knows how: to feed me. I think I just need to have a sit down face to face with him and if he keeps it up, I will just ignore him!

dont laugh, I was going nuts on day five of post op and i tried that. it did help for the moment. i chewed some meat, just barely and spit it out. it made me get over the craving and ... i got it... you chew and its gone... no more food. Food is such a short lived ectasy... losing weight .... a life time of ectasy. It was a magic moment for me.

Big improvement on day 5? I needed to hear that. Everyone is supportive. Hubby dieting strictly while I go through this too and doesn't eat in front of me. God love him! Grown kids behind me too. I just am the weak dizzy one. Perhaps I am impatient. Need to watch a movie, sip some Water and sleep a long night

Now wait a minute...he may be trying to help here. If he doesn't understand the process of digestion, he may be helping you get through your liquid stage by chewing, swallowing the liquid, and spitting the solid. I can TOTALLY see why he would think that may help you.

Let's not move to the assumption that he's trying to sabotage you. He may be unsure and feeling completely helpless that he can't "fix" your pain (which, right now is NOT eating). Our hubbys need to feel they can take care of us (darn that testosterone), and when they can't, they get a little creative in their means to do so.

I think it's a sweet gesture. I wouldn't be upset with him at all. If he were truly trying to sabotage you, he'd say "big whoop...eat the damn steak and quit whining about being hungry"

Just my 2 cents.

Cathy

Stay Strong - Tulipstar. Think of all the work you have done to get to this point and you wouldn't want to damage any part of that right?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
