DH says just chew it up and spit it out

Tulip---I had a dream while I was on liquids that I ate a sandwich. You need to have a talk with hubby. My husband is very, very supportive. While I was on liquids, so was he. Not once did he eat in front of me, and also, we have not cooked anything since all of this started. Tell hubby that if he wants to help you, he should be supportive and understanding. Hang in there. You can do this.

well, my husband ate a whole slab of ribs last night that I cooked. He isnt mean about it, it isnt his fault I ate too much the last 10 years. I do feel my self wanting to say to him, are you still eating? etc. I did once and he politely told me to stop it. Lots of mental things to accomplish here. I am doing it though and proud of myself. 4 days left to next stage, I will make it. Everyone hang in there !

Why are you cooking him ribs? Is he not a grown man? That sounds like tortue! I made it perfectly clear to my family that as long as I was on liquids or mushies, I would not be cooking. Even my 9 and 12 year olds are making things for themselves.

I told them i would not be cooking too. That just wasnt realistic and i have always been strong enough to stay out of the snack basket ! They are supportive and usually eat out. I love to cook on sundays for my family and some friends. They have missed this for 3 or 4 weeks already. I think it made me stronger to know that I can still be around everyone and lose weight. That has been a reason before that I would throw out the diet thinking this isnt fair, they can eat, so can I. It is hard but I feel the family shouldnt want to change me back to before the lapband. I made them brownies too, look how strong I am !! Now... I wont be doing this often, even I cant be strong everyday.

I can't believe that you cooked ribs! You are a strong woman!! I just salivate watching my hubby eat a sandwich. A cold cut sandwich...who would have thought that would get me?

I start mushies tomorrow! Yay!

Also, for all of those wondering why I think my DH (dear husband) may be trying to sabotage me....

He has made several comments before the surgery that after I lost all the weight, I would leave him. I have no idea why he thinks that. We have been together for 12 years and been through so much. So, I just try to reinforce that I want to be w him no matter what size I am.

i am on to purreed foods friday, i dont think that is mushies yet, but the next week definitely is mushies. My husband was very jealous when i wasnt fat so i do hate that part coming back, but he and I will have to deal with it. All of our friends except one... that have had wls have divorced. So they are (spouses) afraid of this. Two years ago he was leaving me... he didnt. So... we will have to see if almost 22 years will keeps us together after this.

If he has made comments that you'd leave him after you got thin It sounds like subconciously he may be trying to sabotage you without really meaning to.

Sounds like hes affraid of the changes you may have as you reach your goal.

I heart to heart is a really good thing to have with him. Sounds like he needs reassurances that you wont *run off* after you lose weight.

Besides often after we've been in relationships a long time we forget to have those heart to heart talks very often. And our guys sometimes need them just as much as us women. ;)

i think lots of men worry that their wives or gf's will leave them once they lose weight and reach their goals... some don't voice it... but some do and it's a realistic worry i think because statistics support it. there has to be issues going on before the WLS though for this to happen too...

I have always said, i would rather him leave me thin than leave me fat!! or the other way around, so I am just concentrating on me right now. The rest will take care of itself. I often worry when he is losing weight the same thing. There is something insecure about when the other loses weight I guess. I know this will change our lives but I am hoping for a positive change. three weeks til i get my first fill. YEA.

I have total support from my family. However, sometimes I really crave a certain taste. I have chewed a certain food and spit out the part thats hard to swallow. I seemed to satisfy my craving, but didn't bother my stomach. So, I think it might be good for you to savor the taste - but don't swallow!!

Some hubbys freak out when their wives decide to get a Lap-Band.

I believe this stems from a couple of different issues.

Change is a scary thing for most people, and their wife is announcing that they are going to change. That freaks guys out.

Most men are interested in the "Why" of things, and when the wife announces they are changing, men wonder "Why"?

A lot of men think that they are the reason WHY their wives are changing, and they decide that their wife must want a different man.

See, guys think of stuff like this:

Their wife has a body that is like a car, and if she is going to turn that "Car" into a "Hot-Rod" then she MUST want to go "Racing". (Presumably with ANOTHER "Driver")

So guys freak out. They think that their wives are dissatisfied with their marriages and that they are planning on losing weight to attract another man.

I know that in most cases this is not the truth.

But a WHOLE LOT of men don't know that!

So if your hubby is freaking out because of you wanting a Lap-Band, you may want to assure him that you want to do this for whatever reason, and remind him that you are NOT looking to leave him for another guy.

dont laugh, I was going nuts on day five of post op and i tried that. it did help for the moment. i chewed some meat, just barely and spit it out. it made me get over the craving and ... i got it... you chew and its gone... no more food. food is such a short lived ectasy... losing weight .... a life time of ectasy. It was a magic moment for me.

I did it too... It's not as satisfiying as swallowing but it did help.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
