My Egd that never was!

Recommended Posts

So today I went in to get my egd procedure at an out patient center...The nurse proceeded to get my iv started. I explained to her that I'm an hard stick. She proceeded to try anyway and could not get the vein. So not wanting to try again she call in the anesthesiologist and he begun to try in stick me!!..after 3 more failed attempts he went and got an ultrasound to find a vein and could not... Long story sure after sticking me in my arms, feet, hands and wrist a total if 10x!!! Called of the procedure my veins just would not cooperate..and now I have to try again in 2 wks at the hospital... So I'm laying here sore arms and feet black and blue dreading having to go thru this again.

Wow, erica2185, that was quite an ordeal. Please don't allow it to keep you from your goal. You are so close.

I feel ya. A couple of months ago i went to a dr (not my reg) about an ear infection. My bs was really high (350) and wasnt responding to insulin so she sent me to the ER in case it was asypmtomatic ketoacidosis. It took one ER nurse 5 trys to get enough blood for the tests. The nurse trying to get the iv fluids going took 7 trys to get it in.

Next time, ask thrm to put some hot tap Water in a rubber glove and tie it off and place it where they are planning on sticking. Its what they do for babies. If that doesn't work they've used blood pressure cuffs on me. My record is 80 times for an emergency surgery. Now i have a bag of tricks! Good luck and I'll be praying for you!

I am a very hard stick also. Generally when I go to have a blood sample taken, the first thing I ask is for a very experienced nurse. Otherwise I cycle through several nurses and many sticks during this process.

I am 3 years post-op RNY surgery and one of the unusual effects from this surgery and weight loss is that it seems like this problem goes away after you lose the weight.

Yep. Learn what works for you, tell them, and stick to your guns.

I always tell them to use an infant butterfly needle and take the blood outvof my hand. For IVs, avoid the elbow and go for the forearm or upper arm.

They blew two veins in the ER visit (about 12 weeks ago) and a decent sized bruise for the IV for my VSG (6 weeks ago). I still have faint discoloration.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
