Pre op diet and weight gain

Recommended Posts

Sorry I'm going to warn you ahead of time, this will probably be a long post. So I was denied for surgery 2 years ago. I wasn't quite heavy enough to qualify. Fast forward 2 years and now I'm about 20-30 lbs heavier and I meet the weight requirement. BUT now insurance requires a 6 month physician supervised weight loss. I go next week and that will be my 5th visit. So far I've lost 8 lbs BUT due to hurricane Matthew we lost power so, not being able to cook, I fell off the wagon and gained back like 5-6 lbs. I have another weight recheck on the 21st and I'm paranoid! The dr doesn't have any record of me gaining the weight per say because I am in between appointments but what if I can't lose the excess weight that I gained back before my next appointment?! What's everyone's experience with this pre op weight loss stuff? I just have such anxiety about it because I was denied last time. Help :/

Good morning, don't freak out. I also had to be on a 6 month schedule with my surgeon's office too required by my insurance Co. By the time I finished and saw my dr to get my surgery date and had to take a test to answer questions but it was just to make sure what I need to know prior and after my surgery. Then took blood test, met with my anesthesiologist and set your my clearance with my primary. The same day I started my liquid diet my nurse called me that my surgery was denied. I was so upset, my bmi and weight was not enough. The nurse said don't worry it's medical necessary so the Dr will appeal it. Do u have any health issues that your insurance shouldn't denie it? After 2 weeks my insurance sent me a letter that it was approved. GOD is good.

Keep the faith. Best of luck

My insurance requires a bmi of 35-39 with a comorbid condition or just a bmi of 40+. My bmi is like 43ish. With either scenario you have to do a 6 month pre op diet but I'm just so paranoid because I was denied 2 years ago. My bmi was 37ish and they didn't consider my pre diabetes or pcos a comorbid condition

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
