3 Weeks Post Op - Are chips and Guacamole allowed?

Guacamole is good. chips, no.

A tablespoon of guacamole, if you are on purees, would usually be okay. chips? NO. For a lot of reasons.

Every physician gives different instructions for the food phases post-op.

Generally, at 3 weeks, if it wasn't on a list of pre-approved foods, I didn't eat it. And my doc has almost the most liberal diet progression plan I've seen.

chips are unlikely to be approved by a surgeon at 3 weeks post. They have sharp edges, take a lot to break down into the mushy consistency the sleeve needs at that point. Even docs who approve crackers like saltines that early are probably going to have an issue with chips.< /p>

Guac I don't honestly know because I don't care for it. If it's blended well enough it might work as far as consistency. However, do you really want to take up sleeve space with anything that doesn't help you meet your Protein and/or Fluid goals? No two sleevers are alike, but at 3 weeks I was desperately trying to get fluids and Protein in to meet my goals, and wouldn't have chosen anything that didn't help me meet my nutritional goals.

Bottom line, your doc is the one who lays out your guidelines, you should check with your team.

If your team isn't available and the information they gave you doesn't adequately answer the question, then there are two questions to ask: is it safe? and does it meet any nutritional goals? If it has the potential to be unsafe, don't go there. If it is likely safe but won't help you meet your nutritional goals then it is likely not worth it.

My plan allowed mashed avocado on puree stage. However, guacomole usually has tomatos, onions, and sometimes cilantro and those items would be a no.

What does your plan say?

Not to be rude but why on earth are you asking about chips?!?! How can they possibly fit into your weight loss efforts? They are nothing but carbs and fat! They will provide you no nutritional support and definitely not a good choice that is going to provide you weight loss and a healthy body. This surgery is not a miracle weight loss gimmick it's a tool to be used wisely.

I ate lots of homemade guacamole (avocado, tomatoes, garlic, onion, cilantro....very well pureed so no chunks) starting in the puréed stage, but chips weren't allowed until 3 months. I actually didn't eat chips until at least a year postop....empty calories, no nutrition.

chips are empty calories. The thing that makes people fat in the first place. Avocados are a high fat food too BUT also nutritious. Have your guacamole with tuna instead of chips, your new body will thank you.

Thank you! I think I got carried away with a craving and the fact that I'm watching football.

FWIW, avocado was too rich for me early out. It's one of 2 things that have made me sick. I had avocado mashed with salt and lemon and it didn't go well.

Put your guacamole on squares of cheese.

Hmm. Intriguing idea. I've been hunting around for things to eat hummus with.

I've been so confused about the things I can eat. I'm 3 weeks out and I can have regular textured Protein now. But struggle with in between meals etc. I have a list but I just feel like it's not detailed. Aside from that Breakfast is very important to me. I see folks eat scrambled egg with a little cheese and turkey bacon but is that too much this early?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
