Joy@boman thanks for replying it's been a bit discouraging. This whole process after surgery has been emotionally and physically exhausting. It's hard not to read some of the posts that people can drink their 40 oz of Protein and all their Water and feel great and I am still struggling to get comfortable. It's nice to know maybe it's just not me.

I was in hospital until Day 4 and not even close to getting enough fluids. Don't worry - concentrate on fluids first and then Protein. It's more important not to get dehydrated which can happen quickly. Walk and move around. Rock back and forth even while just sitting, wave your arms around, March in place. Try different temps of fluids - hot tea, warm broth, Powerade Zero, etc. You'll feel better soon. One hour at a time! I am 2 weeks post-op.

VSG is a more difficult surgery to recover from than bypass.... There's a greater surface area to heal. You need to be super careful!!!

As for incisional pain-- unless it is showing any classic signs of inflammation- bleeding, pus, heat ( I'm not including pain, swelling and redness for a reason...you are healing so those will be present) remember that your tissue was cut in to. You will also experience the sensation of nerve regeneration as part of the healing process, so sharp, quick pains are also normal as the nerve fibers try to reconnect themselves.

Please call your surgeon and make sure this isn't a complication. It could be just gas pains but could be a blood clot or leak too.

I am feeling the effects of the perfect storm - nerves healing up, off pain meds completely (have to be drug screened for work and most pain meds are not approved) and beginning the healing process while learning what and how much my new stomach wants and needs.

The good news is, from what I've read there's nowhere to go but up as I start to heal and mobility improves.

I am following my surgeon's plan to the letter, because I am terrified of complication that would result in more time off work than I can afford.

I am 7 weeks post-op and still struggle to reach my Fluid and Protein goals every day. I just get too full before I can finish my portions! I get strong, pressing pain just under my breastbone when I eat more than a couple of tablespoons of anything. My surgeon said that my sleeve is pretty much right under my breastbone, and so that's where I should feel fullness. Anyhow... hang in there and stick to the liquids for the first 2 weeks. The less digesting your sleeve has to do, the better!

Are you taking a PPI (acid reducer)? A few days out - it could be increased stomach acid and not true hunger. Your sleeve will also be making alot of rumbling noises (Chewbacca) that isn't hunger either. Be sure you are drinking plenty of fluids - that's most important right now. Hang in there - you'll feel better soon!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
