Hello I'm new here

I am in the process of getting approved for the sleeve. I am diabetic and my diabetes is out of control lately. I had blood work about 3 weeks ago and my A1C is almost 11.

Any diabetics that have had the sleeve? How were your levels after the surgery? Still taking meds? Any info would be greatly appreciated

I'm diabetic but mine is much better since I started the pre op diet. I've lost about 20 pounds in the last 2 weeks. Almost off my insulin. I have had to monitor my blood levels and titrate my insulin accordingly.

My a1c when I started was also 11 - prep for 6 months and a1c down to 7; was able to go off insulin and cut Metformin dose in half

After 2 months post op -a1c to 5 and off all meds ... But note the dr would not do the surgery until blood sugar was under control

Are you drinking a lot of soda? My husbands a1c was 13 and when he stopped drinking reg soda it dropped to the 7s.

I went off of insulin when I started my pre op diet. I still take metformin 2 x a day , but I do not take the glimipiride. I had a really hard time controlling my diabetes. My A1c was 13 in January 2015. It is now a 6.9 but I do not expect to ever be off of the metformin, regardless of the weight loss. Some people say their diabetes is cured, but that is not the case for some of us Diabetes runs rampant in my family, on both sides. My uncle and dad have type 2 and neither are overweight.

That's great! That is one of my reasons to do the surgery. I am hoping I will no longer need medications.

Hi! Actually no I don't drink a lot of soda. I have a soda like once a week. I think my problem is carbs..my culture eats a lot of rice so I been trying to avoid carbs and it seems to help a lot when I do.

Did your doctor tell you not to ever expect to be off of medication? Yes I hear you diabetes runs in my family as well but the good thing is that it's now a lot better for you then it was before the surgery.

I am type 2 diabetic. Purpose for surgery is to help control. I've had it for 18 years so any hope that it will completely go away is little. Keeping it controlled is my goal. I was told anesthesiologist will not do surgery unless my bs is 200. I was told not to lose any weight so I was eating whatever. After being told this I'm no sugar no carb. Hoping to get my numbers good for Nov 4 surgery. I'm trying to be so obedient to all the rules and the rules keep changing. I really want to hear from other diabetics and their journey!

My surgeon won't perform my surgery unless my A1C is under 8. I would check with your surgeon if he wants you to have a certain A1C. I was able to get mine below 8 in 2 months with medicine, lowering my carbs and walking. Good luck on your journey.

Enjoy your research phase of surgery. Here is an article on WLS and diabetes. Almost one third of patients are in remission or cured.

I'm two years out and a type one diabetic. Pre surgery I had a high A1C and went into diabetic ketoacidosis. 8 days in intensive care unit, my internal organs systematically shut down. My heart stopped and Dr's brought me back. This was one of my main reasons to have surgery.

Shortly after surgery I was off my long acting insulin. My A1C is in the non diabetic range. I'm really well controlled. I hardly use my short term insulin. Its amazing to get my health back.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
