I was told by my nut that caffeine causes ulcers. And with a new stomach with staples in it could cause severe ulcers and or heartburn. I have been a huge coffee drinker since my teens. Im 42 now and gave it up for the very first time. I had the most severe headache ever for an entire day. After that I would make a chocolate Protein shake then warm it like hot cocoa. It helped.

This was actually one of the topics last night in my support group. Although it's allowed, it is suggested that you avoid it. The last thing you want is to have caffeine withdrawal along with the surgery pains/discomforts. Maybe start doing a half caf so that the withdrawal is less??

Well i would suggest to avoid caffeine as much as you can from now because when you will be post op you cannot have any caffeinated drink so definitely you will have more headaches better avoid it from now and get used to it ..

And good luck

I didn't give up the caffeine pre op. I was a bad girl. Had bad headache 1 day post op! But I found a Water with caffeine in it. It's called Avitae Water. You can get it at a lot of super markets. Go to their web site and you can see where in your area you can get it. The 90mg is the best equal 1 cup of coffee.

I didn't have to give up coffee pre-op, and my lovely PCA pump with morphine took care of any withdrawal headache I might have had post-op. I gave it up for about a month afterward, to give my stomach some healing time. Now, I drink 1-2 cups in the morning, with a GENEPRO, Fairlife milk and half and half concoction and some Monkfruit sweetener.

Yes, its caffeinated, and it is a diuretic... I'm in a hospital- throw an iv in my arm and give me liter and let me have my %@$% coffee!!

That's my thoughts :)

coffee was the one thing I had a HUGE problem giving up on my pre-op. I followed the diet strictly with the one exception- I allowed myself a half cup of coffee in the morning with almond milk.

Now, post op, I don't crave it as much. I actually enjoy hot tea more!

@@mollydeez,

It is great that you are giving up caffeine so early. If you think you feel bad now, you would feel so much worse going through caffeine withdrawal at the same time as facing the pain of surgery and all the other stress that comes with surgery!

I would really suggest fighting through the caffeine withdrawal symptoms – like that headache you had – now rather than later. I know it is hard now, but it will be harder later.

Good luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
