help! new sleeve question

Recommended Posts

hi everyone--

just got sleeved on 9/28 so i am just 4 days post op. i keep reading how hard it is for people to keep liquids down and i'm worried because that hasn't happened to me -- i only threw up once on day 2 and it has been smooth sailing since. in fact i just sipped a whole can of Tomato Soup in 10 minutes with no nausea or pain and i'm worried: what if my pouch isn't small enough???

has anyone else had a fairly easy recovery? trust me i am not complaining! i am just anxious because of all the posts talking about how bad it is, i prepared myself for much worse.

thanks in advance!

For the first few appointments I kept asking my surgeon if he'd actually performed the sleeve surgery.

He laughed and assured me that he had.

The restriction to your stomach (it's not a pouch.....just a small stomach.....drop the pouch term lest you get heckled severely 'round here.....terminology police will swoop down fast & furious to correct us.......and we even have a resident school marm who detests when we don't use proper line spacing and subject verb agreement.....I'm from the South....therefore she gives me a pass....be warned).

Seriously, though.....you'll not likely feel the restriction in it's most demanding state right now. Liquids and soft foods are what's on the menu at the beginning so as to allow your new stomach to heal properly.

Later on the restriction shows up and flexes it's muscles for you.

Allow yourself to heal and follow your plan. Everything will work out in due time.

glad you're having a good recovery! at this point, because liquids go right on through - and soft foods mush up to nothing, just measure/weigh your foods and stick to the amounts they want you to have.

If it helps any, i am only 2 weeks out and i am not having alot of trouble. I havent thrown up and i have no problem keeping liquids down. My only issues thus far are them vitamins!! They upset my stomach bad. And, at my 2 week i was told i was not eating ehlnough, my body was in starvation mode cause i couldnt get much down at a time. Now, i am to eat 6 small meals and have 2 Snacks if needed to get my 70 to 90 grams of Protein a day! Plus, all that Water :-) I get the water....still working on my meaals and Vitamins tho. :-) Also, just remember, everyone is different so your intake and others won't be the same:-) You've got this!! ♡

I'm 8 weeks out and have not thrown up once and have never been nauseous. You shouldn't be worried that it hasn't happened to you. It isn't necessarily normal for those things to happen. Consider yourself lucky and don't over think it!

I am also one of the lucky ones. I am 2 1/2 weeks post op and have had no problems with any liquids. I was drinking my Water and broths and Protein drinks next day after surgery. Didn't have to drink slowly. I also thought maybe the Dr had not done the surgery. I am now on soft foods and still no problems. I am having no trouble getting my Protein. I still drink 1 or 2 Protein Drinks per day depending on what I eat that day. I don't really get hungry, but I eat 3 meals per day and don't snack in between because I'm not really hungry. I can only hope that I continue on with such good results. I hope that your journey continues on successfully and easily. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have so little problems. Good luck to you!

I was able to drink normal after 3 days post opt. My NUT told me that means the swelling was gone. I didn't have any problems either. I am going into my 3rd month and lost almost 40 lbs. So don't worry it's ok not to have problems post-opt.

Don't worry not everyone has a hard time with fluids. It's ok to have it go well! Just be careful when you start to eat food you go slow. The vomiting the first time can really hurt. And yes you will have it happen! You will need to learn how much you can eat and how long it will take you to eat.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
