I know in the hospital, they give us something for pain, but do they send us home with something for pain? And are we able to take our regular meds after surgery by swollowing them or do we have to crush up everything?

That sent me home with a bottle of liquid Vicodin and you can take your regular meds as long as they are smaller like a eraser on pencil otherwise you have to get them changed .

I was able to cut my pain meds in half and take each half one at a time, I only needed pain meds for about 2 days after surgery for the incision pain. I used a small pillow to gently press against my sore belly when getting out of bed or out of my chair, get plenty of walks in during the day, I did 6 short walks a day. Good Luck

@@ppressey24 I'm told that during the pre-op right before surgery they will review current medications and the plan for prior to surgery and after surgery. Not all medications can be crushed so you'll need to make sure to find that out as well.

A week before surgery I had these prescriptions to fill for when I returned home: hydrocodon acetamin (pain), famotidine (antacid), ondansetron (nausea), and hyoscyamine (muscle relaxer). All optional except the antacid. Having said that, I found my own otc Gas X, maximum strength strips my life saver :)

One liquid, two small pills, and one orally disintegrating. No crushing necessary.

The sent me home with Percocet. And for all I hear about them the pain really didnt call for something that strong. I took them the first 2 days anyway. Like why torture myself if I dont have to right? Crushed them since its written everything needs to be liquid or crushed. I usually take ambien at night. When I stopped the Percs I stared at that tiny ambien pill a long time before I said screw it and swallowed it whole. No issues. Slept like a baby.

I was given liquid Lortab post-op but only needed one dose. I was sent home with a regular prescription but never needed it. I had basically no pain after the first hour. I think the nausea the first hour was the worst for me.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
