Is is safe to have any kind of WLS after Fundoplication surgery?

I am asking this for a friend. She is overweight (only 35 BMI) but she is having no luck with losing weight. She keeps yo-yo dieting and gaining back more than she lost. She is up to 219 pounds and has fatty liver cells in her blood. I'm worried about her.

She had the Fundoplication surgery about 3 or more years ago and is wondering if there is any kind of WLS that is technically safe to have. I know it's been done before, but I'm wondering if anyone here has, or knows someone who has had Fundoplication BEFORE their WLS.

I had Fundoplication surgery many years ago (I don't remember exactly), but I had vertical sleeve one year ago and there is no problem. Pretty much, what I understand, Fundoplication pulls the top part of the stomach down below the diaphragm (I think) and it is basically to stop serious indigestion. The vertical sleeve takes off the huge balloon part of the stomach, leaving a banana shaped tube going from the esophagus to the beginning of the intestine. I'm not a doctor so this is pretty simple explanation and may not be everything but what I am saying is a past fundoplication will not stop WLS.

Unfortunately, my surgeon does not operate on patients who have had previous Fundoplication surgery.

I had Fundoplication performed 2 yrs ago and am Post RNY 5 weeks out. I remain unable to vomit. So any severe nausea I have to endure. However I was placed on Omeprazole postop.

Hi I've had a nissen fundoplication many years ago for sever GERD and now I've decided to have WLS and have been told a gastric sleeve is not an option, so I can either have a gastric sleeve bypass or a gastric Omega loop bypass, my OP will require me to have a undo of the Nissen fundoplication and then the bypass done, all in one OP, will be keyhole but I may need open surgery, won't no till I'm on the table. The nissen fundoplication operation is where there pull the esophagus down and wrap the stomach around the too and stitch.

I would not recommend the Omega Loop bypass or MGB or OAGB for someone with severe GERD and/or a Nissen as the risk of bile reflux is too high. I had MGB 14 months ago and now have bile reflux, which has accelerated esophageal damage, along with acid reflux. I will be revising to an RNY gastric bypass this summer.

Anyone considering WLS after a Nissen Fundoplication should make sure your surgeon is VERY experienced with this scenario and to get 2nd or 3rd opinions. This is not something to make a rash decision on. Good luck; I feel your pain.
