Pain in left side to back

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I am a lapband to sleeve converter. I had the procedure last Friday and also had hernia repair. I ended up staying longer due to breathing and heart issues. I am now back and slowly recovering. My biggest issue is I have a sharp pain on lower left side near ribs that goes to my back. If I take a little bit of narcotic meds it helps but then comes back. I talked to my surgeon and he said the robotic arms could have done more pulling or tugging there. I was hoping to go back to work next week since I'm a teacher and it's the first week. However with the pain I don't think it's possible. Just wondering if anyone had similar pain that starts on side and goes to the back. Thanks.

@@asamii Are you drinking enough fluids and staying hydrated? Dehydration can impact kidneys and cause pain that moves towards the back like that.

If it's not dehydration - try a heating pad.

Do you still have your gallbladder? It sounds kind of like a gallstone attack.

I still have my gallbladder. But all I have is the pain. No other symptoms. If it doesnt get better this weekend I'll call my doctor and see what he wants me to do.

I had this pain. i thought something was really wrong. I was told it was normal. It finally eased up about 3 weeks out. I'm a teacher too. Try wearing really high wasted tight pants. Compression is the only thing that helped me.

This pain is normal. I had it radiating to my left shoulder. My surgeon explained that it's bcoz during surgery they have to cut some blood vessels connecting the stomach to the spleen & the pain is due to a part of the spleen deprived of its blood supply. It's called splenic infarction. I hope u feel better soon

This does not seem like a normal part of surgery.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
