August Bandsters How are you Doing So Far

Hi guys:

I was banded on august 13. I've been on liquids for the most part but yesterday my friend made me some slamming Soup and it had baby carrots, celery, cilantro, tomatoes for color and some chicken broth and dark meat chicken.

I have to admit I had a piece of that chicken. and today I had a hand full of raisinettes. I am not finding myself hungry but being that the past two days I am picking at stuff (including guacomole, yesterday as well), I am a bit depressed today. My band is not filled. I have not made an appointment but I will on Monday when I go to NYU for my esoph exam.

I sort of feel scared and i sort of feel like I am going to fail at this since I have been picking. No excuses. I just tested the waters and I feel bad about it. I didn't go over board but a hand full of raisins here, some chicken there..... you know what I mean?

How are you guys doing? Anyone experiencing the same thing?

Yes, I have had a few things feel like they get stuck. Or if I eat too fast it seems to make a weird feeling in my chest occur! However, since surg. I have lost 12 pounds. I am starting to swim again tomorrow! Yay!

So I had my fill on 9/4 and now have to separate my liquids and food which I don't have a problem with. However, I was wondering if anyone else who is at this stage is having difficulties getting the full amount of both of these in. My doc does not want me to drink any "nutritional" liquid so no protein drinks. I do and unjury powder to my food at dinner but it is difficult to do during breakfast and lunch because I am at work. I am a teacher, so I have to eat and drink when my schedule allows. Anyways my question is: has anyone come up with a good plan to figure this out and if not what is your advice, eat the protein or get the liquids?

Salsa,

Did your doc explain why he didn't want you on protein drinks? I'm only curious. I will get my first fill on 9/21. Right now I am surviving on yogurt, cottage cheese and Unjury. I have dappled in mushy foods and blended foods. A big part of my protein comes from the shakes.

I was banded on the 24th, just had my post-op visit yesterday, I'm down 20lbs!! I began mushies and I'm enjoying it sooo much. I'm afraid I'm not getting in enough protein, I can't do the shakes anymore. Keep me posted on all you successes, you guys. I love to hear about it, good luck! :):):):):):):)

I was banded on the 24th to!Im also 29 good luck to you im enjoying mushys to i get scared because i seem to be eating more i cant take the protein shakes anymore either

Ranchgirl, I got my band on August 27. How are you doing with yours. I noticed that you and I are the same age. There is a thread for those 60 years and also 50 years. We have different issues at that age group. Anyway, I will be glad to talk. Just leave message.

Thank you Claramae for your letter. I don't exactly know how to operate this thread thing. I am doing well, just having a migraine every day. It is a small one, however the fact that it is daily is worrying me. Has anyone mentioned having migraines. There is such a change to the body. I just don't know if has anything to do with lap band or if I have another issue. When do you get your first fill? I am not hungry, I am happy about that.

Thanks for your email. Nice to have contact with someone.

LOL! I just sat at a restaurant tonight with my family, for my daughter's birthday, and they had NOTHING on the "liquid diet" so I sat there with a glass of iced tea and watched my family eat!!! UGH!

I know how you feel, sheaross99. 2 days after I got banded, I had to go to my niece's baptism bbq. I sat there drinking a protein shake, while everyone else pigged out. They even had a "make your own sundae" table! A whole table! It was so hard. Now I'm in to mushies, I had refried beans today. It was so good ;) What a difference 2 weeks makes. I don't know how you feel, but the first 2 weeks were so tough for me. It gets better and better everyday. 20lbs. down ain't bad either

I was banded 08/23 and will be 3 weeks post op as of Thursday. I can start pureed but I cheated and started today. I had some pureed black beans......delicious!! I'll see how my tummy feels tomorrow as today I did suffer from indigestion from eating creamed onion soup yesterday. Ranchgirl, I had a migraine only when lying down for a least a week post op. They finally subsided. Lynsay and Salsa, I am curious as to why you can't have any more liquids in the mushy stage. I'm still to get in at least 70 grams of protein.

BTW. Pmmegm, we have the same band date and we're around the same age. I don't have a fill date yet. I'm to see the dr. on 09/26 and then he will schedule it.

Hi

It's great to read about how others banded in August are doing. I learn so much from reading these boards. I was banded August 1st and I have been on solid foods for a week. It's like rediscovering how WONDERFUL food really tastes. I have not had any big problems and I am much happier banded than I was unbanded. Liquids and mushies were tough to get through but all that is forgotten now. I have an APS band. Can anyone give me any information about it? I have not had a fill yet...next Tuesday will be my first fill. I am hungry now with no restriction so I am hoping the fill will help. Some say it will take 3 or 4 fills to find the sweet spot with the APS band. I have lost 30 lbs and have another 100 to go.

Good Luck to all of you and Congratulations on being "Over the Band"

Trish:)

It's been a very interesting 2 weeks. I started on mushies on Sunday (2 days early) mainly because I just could not take the liquids anymore. It was getting hard for me to get them down. Even though I did start early, I really didn't overdo it. I have had mostly soups and some protein shakes. We had a pot luck at church Sunday night and I was so happy with myself. There was, of course, not much to choose from so I found a pot of chili beans with a thin broth. I skimmed off the juice which was very good. The main course of this pot luck was spagetti. I took a very small spoonful and mashed it up thoroughly before eating it. I was surprised by how little I ate and how much I left behind. I was not hungry but just mainly wanted to look 'normal' in the crowd. I did eat about 3 bites of watermelon...yum. My usual thing is to eat a heaping plateful and then go back for seconds. I actually ate less than my daughter-in-law who is a size 7-8 and might weigh 110 dripping wet. She made the comment that this was the first time she actually ate more than me...yeah!!! :bounce:I am looking forward to more mushy foods like oatmeal and more soft cooked or pureed vegetables. I am going back to my swimming tomorrow. I went on Monday but the thunderstorms ran us out of the pool. I will be getting my first fill on 10/4 and I am wondering about that. Oh well, that is a long way off from now...gotta' stay in today.

Keep hanging guys!!
