We all lose weight at a different rate. Try not to give up hope. Part of my sucess is in the mind. The band reminds me not to over eat or eat due to emotions. Good luck to you Nicole, this will take time, but it is well worth it, because it is for your health and good feelings,

, Bob

I saw my dr. today. He is very pleased with my weight loss. I got the band on August 27 and I have lost 30 pounds. He said I was averaging 1.4 pounds weight loss a week and if I keep this up, that would be 74 pounds in a year!!!!

Anyway, I will be getting my first fill next week. Little scared of it!!! He did say that I would do even better after the fill.

After all I have been through, the awful liquid diet, being in the hospital for 5 days because my band slipped almost right away, it has all been worth it!!!

When I was leaving his office, I had to show him how baggy my pants were getting. I know I will have to get some new clothes, but I do not want to hurry, because I do plan on contining loosing weight. At what point did you guys start buying new clothes.

I have been banded since August 13th. I went for my first fill and asked the Dr. to add a little extra because I didn't feel restricted at all. He just put in 1.25cc. When is this going to start working! I still do not feel any restriction and I am beginning to wonder why I did this.

Just venting, I know it will work someday. :faint:

You are right, it will work it just takes a little time. I was frustrated at first also. Please remember we did not get heavy in a short time and it will take a while for us to lose... and the best part is we are not going to put it back on . Good luck,

Bob

I am glad and sad to hear that there are others in the same boat as me. In the beginning, I was losing and now I have not lost in forever. I have no restriction at all and eat just about the same foods as before the surgery, I just get fuller faster. My doctor still has not given me a fill and I am just praying that I do not stretch my pouch in the process of waiting for a fill. I am really sad about the whole thing.

I am still working out about five days a week just struggling to make sure that I don't regain what I have already lost.

Saturday was my birthday!! Pause here for proferred cake.... :hungry:Pause.... :hungry:Pause.... :hungry: RATS....

I went to my birthday lunch on Saturday (had a grilled chicken salad), and for the first time ever I was the last person at the table to finish eating.

My birthday goal was to lose 20lbs by today, two months since my initial consult. I only had one week of liquids after surgery plus I was injured ten days ago, so I'm losing a little slower than some.

I'm just five weeks post-op, and I'm over 1/4 of the way to goal. My goal for Thanksgiving: To JUST be overweight.

Well I have been doing well, I have not had any trouble, unless I get carried away and eat too fast and don't chew well. Boy does that band remind me quickly. I am still not at a good level of restriction, I had my second fill today 1.5cc in an AP small. I have been losing weight just through Portion Control and smart choices. I have had some success in the past doing this, only in the past it would not last. I am hoping the band will make the difference in that regard. Hope you all are doing as well.

Jim

Looks like I am in the same boat as many of you. I had my surgery august 20th and haven't lost much in weeks. Heck I lost for about the first two weeks after surgery and then it stopped. Since surgery I am down 15lbs. I had my first fill last week and I definitely have some restriction as I have realized that I try to eat way to fast and have gotten things stuck....even pb'd for the first time today. (I am a slow learner....lol). I am really getting frustrated though that I haven't lost anymore. Even this past week, I thought I would have dropped a good few pounds and I am only down 2. I know they say that is right on target of 1-3 lbs per week but come on.....I know I am eating the 1200 calories a day, I can't eat any less. I am hungry on that and now with the restriction I am having a hard time figuring out just what and how much I can eat....sorry to vent, but I want you guys to know you are not alone.

Badonk--I feel the same way! I have only lost 15 since surgery too. However, I have had my fill for 2 weeks now and won't get another until November 7th. While I do know that restriction is there when I eat to fast and either have a hiccup episode or it comes back up, I don't feel any restriction hunger wise. Yes, it is frustrating but in a few months ,hopefully, we will be at our sweet spot! Heads up, trying to do the same here!

I am glad you said that pigsrflying.....I don't feel any restriction hunger wise either.....I can't eat as much and I have to be really careful with what I eat, but the head hunger is killing me. I am so nauseaus the last few days....I think I am going to call my doc and see what he says. I don't know why all of a sudden I would feel this way constantly. Anyone have any ideas why?

Hi , a good question is why can you not eat. If you are having a problem then may I suggest you call your clinic. If this is a tempory problem then sure, have some Soup or Chrystal Light, but be carefull of heavy calories in some liquids.

So I have had zero restriction since my fill on Sept 4, and have been okay with that because I am rarely hungry and was still losing significantly. Well starting yesterday I started feeling like everything was getting stuck. I have not PB'd, but have slimed a little. This morning I had a hard time getting my Crystal Light down. Then I tried Breakfast (same thing I had for dinner two nights ago) and I thought I was dying. After two bites I was sliming and in incredible pain. I felt like I had swallowed a golf ball and it was stuck right in the middle of my chest. I put the food down and didn't eat anymore. About 2 hours later I tried some oatmeal and it too did the same thing. I can get liquids down so I am going to go back to the liquid diet for a few days. Any one have any ideas what could be going on. If it doesn't go away I will call my doctor on Monday, but I live 5.5 hours (and across a mountain pass) from him. grrrr.

Hi Karri,

I am Bob in Toronto, I have been banded since Aug 7. 2007. I have heard some people say that when this happens they drink something hot or at least warm to loosen up the band or stomach. Some people can't eat in the morning, but later in the day they can eat.

Yes by all means call your clinic, that is why they are there. You have a great idea.

Good luck,

Bob

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
