All Protein Shake Diet

Recommended Posts

I had my gastric sleeve February 2013. I was 300 pounds and lost 120 pounds. Well I had a baby August 2015 so I've gained 50 pounds back and I haven't been able to lose the weight again. I think part of my problem is I'm addicted to carbs again. So I was thinking about going back to the basics: I'm gonna do what I was told to do in the beginning of my surgery. I'm going to start off with an all Protein Shake diet. Has anyone done this? EAS makes a really good Protein shake with 15 grams of protein in it and only 100 calories. I could get in a lot of protein with minimal calories. I really think I just need to withdrawal from carbs again. Has anyone tried this? I've got to do something. I just want to get back to 180 pounds again.

Going back to the liquid diet should definitely help!

I was Lap Band -> Sleeve revision, so I think your situation might be similar to what I went through during my pre-op diet. I dropped 20 lbs in those 2 weeks before my surgery.

Just be sure you're getting your Protein in, 70-100 g/day, and 64 oz of Water.

Think of it like a little "reset" - Best of luck!

I have been trying to do the same thing. Because I'm in an office full of eaters I've been having problems. But I think I'm going back to that as well. I stalled about 8 months after surgery (2/10/15) and between I stayed the same up until a couple weeks ago when I found out I gained 9 pounds! A reset is in order! But I need to eat fruit or veggies with it because I still get really hungry!

Good luck with your journey!

I feel like my hunger is all in my head. To be honest, after I had my sleeve I don't get the "starving" feeling I used to have. I do get hungry but not as bad as it was. I'm gonna try to push myself. I'm not going to eat fruit or vegetables because I'm going to do low carb. I've always found that I lose more weight that way. I've gotta do something! I may add in some of the 100 calorie greek yogurts though because they are high Protein as well. I ordered a variety pack of Protein Drinks and protein juices from this website as well. I just want to try some. I wish you could just go to the store and buy some of the bariatric pal stuff.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
