Drink prior to eating? Lapband patients... ?

Recommended Posts

After seeing my PA a lap band adjustment and deciding I didn't;t require and un-fill this appointment... he suggested that I drink about a half of cup or Water prior to eating as the pouch fills up with saliva and then creates you to slim once you start to eat. H
e also jokingly said white wine works too, but you don't; want to drink white wine all day. LOL
Has anyone else heard this advice?

Thanks

I don't understand. Why would the PA suggest you do something that would make you slime? Am I misinterpreting what you wrote?

Hi gowalking,

Before one eats he was says to drink a small amount of liquid to wash out any drainage or saliva that has built up and been sitting in the pouch since you last meal.
I've actually been trying it and it seems to have helped me. Thank you for checking.

Looks like you have done very well with you band assistance. Wish I could say the same. Dropped sixty pounds and here I am. UGH!!!

Thanks for clarifying! That makes more sense for sure though my PA has never mentioned anything like this to me. Oh, and I've no idea why I've been so successful when others have not. I did nothing special...I just watched my intake and did some exercising...but not extreme.

I'm just glad it worked...I was close to being totally immobile when I was banded.

that is a interesting concept. my Surgeon said to not drink about 20- 30 minutes prior to eating so your pouch would be empty. then wait about the same length of time after eating so far that has worked for me. but hey if your successful with that it's fine. I just cannot drink while I eat at all, it makes me slime everytime.

I used to do this at almost every "daytime" meal..... i would have a small sip of Water to "lubricate" things around 10 mins before a meal.

I found i was always tighter in the morning... and this helped... a warm drink helps even more.

I never slimed doing this, but don't do it after... or you will slime...

That's also what I was always told. Hummm...It surprises me the new information they uncover on these lap bands.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
